Ortley Beach, NJ Race - Info. Needed
Wanted to know where the dry pits are for the race (Seaside)? Wet pits? Where is the best place to watch the race from land (start-finish line). Any information on the race logistics would be helpful, thanks.

============================================== Hello Race Fans, Everything is in place, the permits are in hand and we are expecting a great turn out of boats for next Friday's Jersey Boyz Offshore Grand Prix On Thursday of next week, you should make it a point to stop by the pit area. Here's a map to the Jersey Shore Marine on Rt 70 just west of the intersection of Rt 88. http://oparacing.homestead.com/Pits_Map.jpg The pits will be open from 10 - 5. The pits will be alive with the sounds of the Hot Monkey Band. Amusement rides for the kids, plenty of food vendors, Miss New Jersey will be available for autographs, a Police K9 demonstration, a puppet show and a Krispy Kreme Dipping Station and most importantly, a Dunk the Racer Tank. This is a day for the kids to see the boats and meet the teams. So bring your kids and your bathing suit, you might even take a turn in the dunker. In fact, we are expecting enough of a turnout that parking for the pits will be in the Foodtown parking lot, on the West bound lane of Rt 70 across from the pits. A shuttle bus will constantly run between the two locations. At the registration tent, tickets will be available for $30 to anyone (first 60 people) that want to go on the Miss Michelle to watch the race. We will use Miss Michelle, as one of the course marker boats so a great viewing position will be available to anyone that wants it. Tickets are sold on a first come first serve basis, only at the registration tent in the pits. · Mandatory Volunteer Captain's meeting at the Surf Club at 5pm. At the meeting each captain will receive two T-Shirts (nice ones) a new disposable flag to show they belong on the course and tickets for the party that immediately follows. · Racer/volunteer party at the Surf Club in Ortley Beach from 6 to 8. Race Day - Friday August 12th The racecourse runs from about Ocean Bay Blvd in Ocean Beach to the northern tip of Seaside Heights. The best place to watch the race from is the Surf Club. The boats will come within 100 yards of the beach at that point. www.Talkoffshore.com will broadcast the race over a PA system and live on the Internet. The Surf Club will also serve as the Start Finish line. It is THE place to watch from. Click here for a chart of the racecourse - http://oparacing.homestead.com/Course_map.JPG Volunteer boats!! · Course Marker boats - pick up scorers at the Sand Bar at 10:30 am · Medical and Dive boats Pick up medics and divers at the Coast Guard Station at 10:00am · All volunteer boats must be on station at 12 noon for a 12:45 helicopter fly over to check the course setup. There will be two races. The first race will start at 1pm and feature the rough and ready Super Vee lite class. These are five very evenly matched boats that have a score to settle and Ortley is the place. It's a short four-lap race but should be quite a battle. Between 12:30 and 12:45 we'll start the second race with the big boats for an hour of roaring offshore excitement in front of the local beaches. Next week, we'll go over who's coming and how to understand the classes. See ya soon, Ron |
