Default Long Island Ferry Question

Anyone familiar with the Bridgport to Port Jefferson ferry? We are planning to take it on the way back from vacation to Cape Cod in a couple weeks, need to make a christening on LI on the way back. We would be crossing Saturday 20 Aug mid day, and I wondered if we would need reservations or if weekends are open enough. I don't know "exactly" what time we would be getting there, havn't figured out a drive time from Cape yet.

Thanks - Greg

It wouldn't hurt to make a reservation.

We take it all the time and never make reservations (We've done it 4 times this summer so far). Mid-day should be fine. We took it again two weekends ago and got on when we were on stand-by on a Sunday late afternoon which is about as heavy as it gets, especially considering it's the height of vacation season. I wouldn't worry about it, even in the remote chance you don't get on, they leave every hour during this time of the season and you'll get the next one.

Wife e-mailed for me to get the ferry reservation so ... Avoiding conflict, and any potential "I told you so" I took the easy way out and booked one on-line.

Thanks - Greg
