Pictures of the Boyne Run start

I cruised up the West coast of Michigan from Holland to Grand Haven today to watch the Skater boys take off on their run to Boyne City today. The run is a bit much for my diminutive Donzi 18 Classic but it was a great day for running both the Skaters and my little Donzi. There were leftover 2' swells from the windy day yesterday, overcast skies, no wind, and a threat of rain in the forecast to keep almost every other boater, except for the fishermen, tied to the docks talking about gas prices.

There were 5 Skaters making the run: one 36 (Pammy), two 368's (Kroozin' and another one I don't know), one 40 (Blow Out), and the infamous "Cat Can Do" 40 raceboat. Five prime examples of awesome monster blower motors, sweet paint jobs, and all-around kick azz rigs.

I knew that I had brought a knife to a gun fight, so I didn't attempt to run with 'em. Before they took off I ran up the coast a bit to get a good vantage point.

Thanks to my dad (Dale) for bringing his Nikon D70 and taking some nice pics. Sorry the running pics didn't turn out.

We had a great run back to Holland with some nice air time.

WOW !!!! they are awesome pics. I would love to run in a poker run with those big boys. Althought the start would be the only good time. They'll leave me sitting still. :D

Re: Pictures of the Boyne Run start

Hey Tamb, the other 368 belongs to Chris Joyaux, he lives in Illinois but he keeps the boat up here, it's called Face lift. I had to have all the boats go down the south arm of Lake Charlevoix, It was the only place that would let me bring a tanker truck in with the race gas. On there way back the Boyne they must have misunderstood me when I told them the speed limit was 55, they said they thought I said 155 and they were running, or should I say flying close together and I got a report that they blew a couple of windows out of a cabin. When they got to the no wake zone in Ironton the sheriff boat was waiting for them. He chewed on there a$$ alittle, but no tickets, so all was well. Also Tamb we had a average Joe's poker run today with everything from 18' bowriders to 36' Sundancers, it turned out great, there were 26 boats and they had a blast, it was only $50 to enter 1/2 of that went for the dinner and the other 1/2 went to the best hand. We will be doing that one again next year and your little Donzi will fit right in. JB

JB - They blew out some cabin windows?  :evilb: I was wondering where they'd get race fuel up there, nothing like having your own tanker to fill up the boat. :D :D I'll try to make it up there for that average boat fun run next year.

It looks like it will be a great day for their return trip today.

Jeff, good to see you out in your boat. Even in the rough stuff  :drink:

Thanks for all the great pictures!! We put over 400 miles on the boats and nobody had any problems!! :D Saturday we ran all the way to Boyne in 2-3 footers and a few 4 footers as well.....but Sunday was smooth sailing all the way home!! (we sure went through some fuel!!)

JB thanks for all your help...you sure live in a beautiful area. Everyone was really nice too (even the sheriff  ) He didn't know how fast we were going (thank God!) he just had some complaints from the locals....some of them thought a plane had crashed on the lake  :evilb: :D Hopefully some of them enjoyed it too

I'll post some pics in a minute...

Only $400, and that check went right from Citgo Gas to Camp Quality. West Michigan Powerboat couldn't even pay there bill for dinner at Garretts and a few other bills. :(

How was the run??? We didn't make it, the Cig was on the way back to Cigarette and we haven't talked to Kieth. My dad saw you come by Leland on your way up and was bummed we were sitting on the side once again. I hope the boat ran great. The pics are awesome. Hopefully we will be there next summer!

Vandy, the run was great. Everyone who went had a really good time. No problems with the equipment or the weather!! I thought we might get rained on, but it held off for us. 2-4' waves heading up, but smooth sailing coming home. We all enjoyed each others company and we're all looking forward to doing it again.

Sorry you couldn't make it, I sure hope you get that boat sorted out soon! Maybe we can do some boating together in September??
Dan

I wasn't involved in any of that, so I wouldn't know.

What other bills were there?? We paid the fuel guy, hotel rooms, and drinks directly ourselves. Garrett let us stay at his dock, no charge. We didn't do anything else.

Re: Pictures of the Boyne Run start

Hi Dan, You boaters were great and had awesome boats, everything on your part was great, it was very nice to see you. The problem was with West Michigan Powerboat, they had agreed to pay Garrett's $5000 for the Luau, they sent a $1000 deposit and when they showed up they only had another $1000, thats why you didn't have brunch back at Garrett's on Sunday. There was also $350 for a DJ that they didn't pay and also the Harbourage Marina had 6 slips reserved @ $1.75 per foot = $390 which the Boyne City Chamber ended up paying. But as far as you BOATERS go you were great, I would have liked to stick around and visit, but after seeing what WMPA did to Garrett I couldn't stand to. If anyone else reading this has any questions they can call Gaarrett's On Water Street or the City. Have a great summer and be safe, JB

Re: Pictures of the Boyne Run start

Sounds like they are up to there old tricks again

Follow this attached link and it will describe what happen the last time this group put on an event (notice the date of posting)
Post 5 and post 7 pretty much explains what went down back then and how this group acts so it should be no real surprise

The "new group" mentioned in that thread was the WMPA

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=101672

I have since confirmed most of this again to make sure it is up to date and it is
to date there are still a number of folks un paid for an event that took place a year ago promoted by WMPA

This kind of thing will once again set back offshore boating and it is giving one more black eye to the sport we all love

anyone wanting to verify any of this please contact me it is all very easily corroborated

JB4Boyne sorry to here you got took in by this group and they cost you headache and some money I hope it wasn't alot of money

I can verify many $$Thousands$$ un paid in the last event they put on here
I hate to see it happen again to another great boating spot

From what i remember They are old club from back in the 90s i think

They went dead for many years

They reserected it to try to put on a race last year and is basicly a small group of people, really not an active club

Re: Pictures of the Boyne Run start

I wish we would of had all of this information before we got involved with them. We really had nothing to gain, we were just trying to help out fellow boaters and this is the thanks we got. But once again it wasn't the boaters that participated in the event, they were great and it was nice to see them.
