Anybody know anything about the crash near Detroit Edison last night?
The news said south side of River Raisin at the Detroit Ed plant.
Sounded like a cruiser.
Not much info except that a man didn't make it.

32 foot boat.
One dead, 6 injured including a three year old who was flown to St. Vs.
I googled it. Looks like they hit the pilings near the plant about 10:20 last night according to the Free Press.

I only know what I read in the paper, same as you, 7 people on board 1 killed everyone else injured the three year old was flown to St. V's in critical condition. It was a 32' Wellcraft Cruiser (docked somewhere locally) that ran into some old pilings on the north side of the river right at the mouth...5 feet from shore.

The accident happened on the north side of the river, The Ford Motor Co. property, I walked out to check the scene out, At 1:00 p.m. the boat is still sitting in the water half sunk. It looks to me like they hit an old steel dock the extends out into the river. Don't know why they were so close to shore..

The visibility has been bad around here at night the past few days. Probably one of the reasons that guy ran aground on Metro Beach. I hate being out on those cloudy, hazy nights.

Your probably right Sunday was kind of cloudy which would make it very hard to see where they were at, here's a link to the local news article: http://www.monroenews.com/articles/2...ews/news01.txt
Here is a chart of the mouth of the river too, I believe the arrow shows the pilings they hit, then you can see buoy's 7 & 8 which are 1/3 of a mile away the problem is they are unlit so they probably couldn't see them. Buoy's 5 & 6 are lighted but they were 1.3 miles away. Hopefully the injured parties make a swift recovery.

Thanks Ofshore.
I run that stretch once a week. I thread the needle right down the middle. Always use the GPS. If they didn't have one or got distratced, I can see getting off course. It is especially hairy when two go-fasts pass right there.
To be heading out to the lake and hit that side, it was a big drift though.
In any event, the person lost was a brother boater, God rest his soul.
Hopefully the injured will recover soon. Jami is in our hospital, but because of HIPAA I only know what I read.
Thanks Ofshore.
You guys be careful out there.

Unfortunately , Channel 4 news in Detroit reported investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the accident

Toledo Blade called the boat a "32 foot Cigarette boat" in today's edition.
It was clearly an express cruiser.
Dorks.
