Were the hatches converted to open that way? Mine open sideways. What caused it to break?

A guy with a Motion 35 running in a Poker Run two WE ago had both his hatch blow off because of positive air pressure from the scoops he had just installed. Thank God no one was hurt.

They latch in the front with the latches that you turn 180 degrees to lock and anothe 180 degrees to unlock. Between the wind in the scoops and the vibration, the latches sometimes turn so they come unlatched. Whenthe hatch lifts a little bit the wind gets under it and whooosh! It flew about 40 feet in the air. By the time we turned around it had sank.

The other Motions have them open to the side. I converted mine. That was a good itea . They look good opening this way, I just have to get a better latch system. I may go back to race pins.

Maybe that boat with the new scoops forgot to cut relief vents? All that unused air needs to get dumped at the transom. I forgot to install the clips on the pins a few times on my boat. At 100mph the hatches will float open about 1" flopping lightly. Oops...

Gino, were you able to save the front half or is it a new fish bed now? If so I would think you could have it fixed.

We looked for almost an hour. It sank like a rock. It's such a pain. I ordered the Scoop from Summit but then had it widened 4 inches and lenthened 6 inches. Then they glass it to the hatch and paint. I ordered the hatch overnight, it's at the glass shop now. He has until 4:00 tomorrow to do all the work to the new hatch and scoop, Attach and paint everything so I can leave to Destin tomorrow. He has a long night ahead of him.

Sorry to hear of that kind of bad luck, It made me think of an ebay ad I saw maybe when you read this guys luck you'll feel better. Ad id 456909968. Its pretty funny if you read all the way through, we've all been there. At least we have cool boats, I dont think I'd put up with the B.S. for a boat like this guy in the ad has.
