Avanti 33

Anybody have any experience with an Avanti 33? How fast w/ HP500 carbs? Pro's and Con's? Build Quality/rigging/workmanship? Rough water capability/ handling?

Thanks in Advance!

From the posts I have read here on OSO about Avanti, i would be careful. There were alot of negative things in the posts. Do a search like Trick said and you will see.

Re: Avanti 33

Avanti power boats were built in Miami in the mid to late 80's, the company was owned by Raul Rodriguez nickname (budi) They made a 33 center console or a 33 race pleasure deck both boats were made mostley with triple outboards. They were heavy boats with large fuel. I grew up with Raul in the late 70's but lost track of him in the late 80's. He knows how to build a boat that will get from point A to B even if the water would keep the average boat on the trailer.

there made in Palmyra NJ. i owned a 22ft'r with a 454 mag and a bravo 1 and that boat handled fantastic for its size. had it in the Atlantic in some less then favorable conditions on numerous occasions, ran it up and down the Barnegat Bay. Heavy boat solid build...only down fall is re-sale since there not a lipstick boat ie...(Fountain, Baja, Spectre etc...) I almost purchased a 33 last year from a dealer in Toms River. Hull was intact needed a complete repower including drives but didnt need another project. The 33 is a wave crusher.

Re: Avanti 33

The 33's a real good rough water boat. Built strong, rigging should be good if it has HP500's. Most complaints on this board are not with the boat but dealing with the owner. These boats have always been made in Palmyra. I have worked on many Avanti's. PM me with any questions I'll
be glad to help if I can.

There're two Avanti's...NJ & FL
NJ is all sport-boats(33' based on Coyote...I think)
Fl. has been mostly Center Console recently. Haven't seen a late model sport-deck in a long while.

A friend of mine had a late 80's 30' NJ Avanti with major stringer problems :( . Started the repairs himself because professional repair was over $6000. Ripped it all apart and found out why it was so expensive...gave up and let the bank repo it and was happy to be rid of it
He's now running a Wellcraft :D

Re: Avanti 33

Mold work is horrible on most every one I have ever seen. Hull sides have major waves in them. Check the bottom of the boat, usually quite a bit of hook near the stern. Strakes are never straight either. Resale is not very good either from what I have seen. Had a friend with one and it was a POS.

Since you mentioned it, the one thing I noticed on that e-bay 33' every time I drove past it was the wavy hull sides. I could see it plain as day driving by at 50 mph.
