Default Cheaper gas for your boat? Maybe.

I got this email today from one of the largest construction related business in the midwest. PLEASE READ this. It makes sense to me.
I am sorry if anyone thinks this shouldn't be on the General Discussion page, but I think it should. Gas prices matter to all of us.
I am also sorry if you work for Exxon/Mobil or are a stock holder.

Everyone should know that I don't forward this kind of stuff, but I

snopes.com has the dirt on this one as well as the "don't buy gas for one day" chain e-mail. Nice ideas, but unfortunately the laws of economics will always apply in a free market economy.

if people managed to somehow completly boycot one brand of gas all they would do is put that company out of vuissnes prices elsewhere were unaffacted. The only way to change the price of fuel is to reduce the amount we use long term. OPEC could care less wich company they sell their crude to and that is what affects fuel prices the most, yes the american oil companys are getting rich on their markup, but their markup per gallon isn't that much. they only make so much becuase they sell alot of fuel. Even if you did manage to get an american oil company to lower their prices by boycoting them it would be a tiny reduction, like 2-5 cents a gallon.

That rant about gas prices and boycotts has been around for a couple years.

Most of the companies buy gas from the big companies like 76, Exxon, etc.....they just don't add in the additives like injection cleaners and stuff. That's why big companies like 76 actually have better, cleaner gas. The "no name" gas companies out there probably bought from the big guys, they just don't add the good additives in ther fuel, hence their lower prices but inferior quality product.

I wasn't arguing anything...just telling the facts, my friend owns a few gas stations, so he is in "the know" if you know what I mean.

Mike, I agree. What's the down side? Nothing. Maybe it will work.
I undestand profit margins and all that, but these oil companies are showing record profits.
Any other solutions are going to take years to implement. This one may be felt next week.

Guys,
I totally agree with you, this is out of hand. What I am saying is that if you want to "boycott" the big guys, (like Exxon, Mobil, 76 etc.....) to hurt them by not buying their gas/ fuels it is hard because the little guys usually buy their gas from the big guys.

Lets just say we boycotted one of the big gas chains enough for them to notice and lower there price 10 cents temporarily, spineless people would FLOCK there in droves and price would soon go back up. People like to talk but not follow thru or take action,Smitty
