Anybody Running V10 Ilmor Viper Motors?
Hello - I am a noob here and pretty much a noob to fast boats. But I have owned a few Vipers and had a lot of fun with them. When I saw that Ilmor was building a V10 marine version of the Viper motor then that got my attention.
If any of you are running the V10 Ilmors could please give me some feedback then I would very much appreciate it. Who sells boats with these motors? Whats the hot set up?
Thanks very much in advance for taking the time to respond to this noobie's questions.
John

Your best bet is to go to the search bar top right corner of the OSO screen and type v10 Ilmor and see what has already been posted on them already, sorry that is all I can do to help you.

TX.........right now, www.adrenalinepowerboats.com is building a V30 sit down with a set of V10s.......call them and ask for Mike......the boat will be pushing 625hp a piece and will run in the 90s all day long. You need to check out the paint job on them as well, you will be amazed at what they have done!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Anybody Running V10 Ilmor Viper Motors?
I now have a pair of 625 Ilmors in my boat. I coiuld not be more pleased. I had the 550's in the early summer and found out about the upgrade 625's.. I loved the 550's and love the 625's even more. The motors are incredible as far as dependability and effienciency. I have enjoyed the sound and dependability all summer. Ilmor has absolutely the best customer service of any company They also have the best testing of any motor on the market. Has anyone else tested theirs to the dyno to 300 to 500 hours to guarantee the dependability? No, not even mercury marine. Ilmor has more backing and more money than Brunswick, so do not doubt that they will be here to stay. I talked with Jim at Nortec this weekend at LOTO and he said that they are putting a pair of the 625's in a 36 or 39 and I am sure they will be pleased.
If tomorrow I were planing on building a single engine boat, I would be putting in a single Ilmor V-10 for the power. It would be equal to a V6 for gas mileage. I am willing to bet on it.

Wow, this is very enouraging! What range of cost would I be looking at for the least expensive boat out there with a single Ilmor V10? Sorry for all the questions - but you guys are a great source for information. Thanks.

TX, loaded question... there are many single eng boats, but the least $$, my vote would be Superboat, maybe around $100-$110.
Another good choice would be a Saber.

Many of the CA custom builders are offering the V-10 as an option. Your best bet is to identify a boat that you want and see if they are willing to offer alternative power options to Mercruiser.
