Coming to NY for the first time

Bringing the wife to NY for her 30th b-day on Oct 30th. come in on Oct 26th have some ballet tickets for the 27th, and rent tickets for the 30th, eating at Tavern on the green on the 29th.

What else should we do while we are in town, (boat related )staying in the theature district.

Anyone want to take us for a boat ride in a fast cat., any manufactures we should check out. I am pumped for some reason, and i hate the ballet and the theature

NYC is the best in the world. The list of things to do is endless. Empire State Building, Ellis Island, Stock Exchange, Museum of Modern Art, take ride around Manhattan boats, dinner at CLUB "21" make reservations in advance. Thats Trumps, Mayor Mikes and Rudy's favorite joint along with many other celebs. Macy*s and Bloomingdale's for shopping. Little Italy and China Town a must. The list goes on and on. Google NYC for a list of things going on the week you are here.

That list pretty much does it. You won't get into the NYSE, after 9/11 you won't get on the sidewalk in front of the place without an "approved" escort.

Drinks atop the Marriot Marque.

If you want to give her a treat hit the boutiques on 5th and Madison Ave North of about 45th.

And don't forget the Naked Cowboy in times square

Stop by JC Performance... he will have something for you :D

Yankees will be in the World Series too so you may want to scrap the ballet.....
Seriously... if you are a sports fan, you might be able to schedule a tour of Yankee Stadium....

Boating related?

Check out the Intrepid! www.intrepidmuseum.org

Here's a fast boat ride. www.circlelinedowntown.com/shark.html

At night, Times Square and drinks at the rotating resteraunt on top of the Marriot Marque. It's right at Times Square.

And don't miss the opportunity to take a subway ride!

Be safe and have fun.

The Intrepid is one h*ll of an "offshore" boat. I had a wild ride on her about 35 years ago. Nothing like seeing water coming over the flight deck while pitching in heavy seas!

Although I lived here all my life, I never was much for the city. If you have never been here before, I would suggest taking a ride out to the shores. There are some great beaches to see. It may be a bit cold here at that time, but you can still take in the sites. If your interested let me know I can make a few suggestions for you.

Trying to figure out how the Yankees will be playing baseball at that time of the year. Maybe you're confusing the Yankees with the Red Sox.

Walk around SoHo.
Oriental Pearl for Chinatown Dim Sim. - its a close walk from soho.
Johns Pizza on Bleeker in the Village.
Walk from 5th ave thru cental park to the west side.
Let me know specifically what you're into, and where you are staying.
My bro that works w/ me lives on mad and 73rd.
I can give you some good specifics, especially if you want to do something besides the usual tourist stuff.

We are wrapped up for the season other wise I would have tried to get you a ride around Manhattan.
Check out the Village on Holloween if you like watching a good freak show.
There are some good suggestions listed, enjoy.

Re: Coming to NY for the first time

I believe that the bar atop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (5th Avenue from 80th Street to 84th Street) is closing after October 31st. It is worth visiting. The 'suggested' entry fee to the Met is $15 each. But, it is a suggestion. If you're just going up for a drink, pay them $5. Believe me, the Met will make it up on the drink prices! :drink:

Trypical tourist stuff includes, the ice skating at Rockefeller Center (I'm looking out my window as I write this and the tourists seem to be enjoying the rink, which re-opened last week). Other activities you might consider include; visiting the shops and restaurants at the new Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle, grabbing a burger at Burger Joint in the Parker Meridien hotel (it was in GQ as one of the 10 best burgers in America), having sushi at Sushi Den (there are 3 locations, but T2x prefers the one on the North side of 49th at Madison Ave) and having a drink at Beekman Tower (overlooks the UN - so you can praise it or spit on it :D ). I'd also recommend walking along the water at Carl Shurz Park (where the mayor's mansion is located) as well as having lunch at the 79th Street Boat Basin (79th and Riverside) which is probably closing soon for the season.

Lastly, as an OSO member, contact DaveP to make certain you and your wife get some coupons for some 'extra attention' from NYC's official goodwill ambassadors at LACE!! :evilb:

if yer looking for steaks, you could try the touristy ones or go to Wolfgang's on Park between 33 and 34(its in my building).

the owner was the head waiter at Peter Lugers for 20 something years and his steaks are awesome!
