CENTURY ULTRA 30ft - I need help

Hi,

I need help. Recently I bought an offshore boat 30ft - CENTURY ULTRA 30ft, year 1988 with two 454 magnums on alpha drives each 365 HP. As i did not receive any technical information from previous owner and also i could not find any info. on Internet I am asking if anyone has any information about that type of boat. Actually we are doing some works on the boat.
Thanks in advance

I was under the impression that 1987 was the only year that Merc. used Alpha drives on 454 CI motors,, and that was on the 330 HP versions, I had a few friends that had the 365hp 502's and they were all on Bravos, I can only say, having had 454 330hp Alpha drives on a 30' Scarab Panther, get a spare lower, I had a spare Right hand drive, the left hand lower was hard to find, so I never got a spare. Are your drives counter rotating?? If so they might be Bravos.

Re: CENTURY ULTRA 30ft - I need help

A company by the name of BARON MARINE in grand rapids michigan made a mold off a old 26 monza hull and then tooled up their own deck in about 1981.The company went out of business in 1982 and sold the molds to the guy who built them who goes by the name Jack Boresma out of holland michigan. He built about 6 of the 26 model under the name of MIRAGE until he sold the molds to Century boats in about 1985.The boat was primarly set up for small blocks .In 1986 Century decided they were going to get serious about building a sport boat and added 3 feet of swim platform and changed the deck to more of a euro look with big blocks as standard engines. Century didn't add any length to the bottom of the boat just the platform. this hull had a lot of rocker in the bottom and combined with the short running surface and the weight of the big blocks tended to be quite a handful in the handling department.

Powerboat magazine did a test on it and could get it up to about 74mph before it started to get out of control, they pretty much told Century to go back to the drawing board.I think they quit building them in 1988.
