Warranty . Is it a right .Do you deserve better?

Hi ;
America have some of the most demanding consumers in the world. When KPM set up business in America the first thing we did was to ensure we had a robust and simple Warranty Process. To Our english amazement we found out that most american vendors in the industry had limited warranty at best or none at all.

Is this right ?. Have we got it wrong?

Would we accept this in any other industry.? If you buy a car you will get a minimum of 3 years warranty and probably 3 years free servicing. Why not in the marine industry.

In England Sales Law gives the consumer more protection where product has to be deemed fit for purpose it is intended. Under thes circumstances all other disclaimers can be void. Its a good system

As a result KPM and Trick have just increased thier warranty peace of mind ( which we cannot advertise on this forum) .

Is it enough ?
Have we forgotten something?
How do we compare?
Should there be an industry standard. ?
What would you want in an ideal world(sensible questions please)

We would love to hear about your views. Please help shed some light for your poor confused english cousins across the pond.

Jules

Remember !. Curiosity did not kill the cat. Complacency did.

I just bought a new 2005 GMC 2500HD truck, I personally think it SUCKS to get a 3/36 warranty with a new $50K truck. American products should have better warranties.

I also will not buy a large flatscreen TV. Example; you buy a 50" flatscreen for approx. $5,000.00 , then get a crappy 1 yr warranty. (WTF  ) If you add in the extended warranty and the sales tax, then your purchase price goues up like another $1,500+

If your buying parts for your boat what would you expect as a minimum. Or is it a given that stuff will break at owners liability because its marine???

I would say that it depends on the part being sold.

Examples--hp exhaust/headers should get 5 years
--drives should get a year behind their rated power
--gauges should get 5 years

Like I said, I think it depends on the part. The other problem is, how is the manufacturer going to decide whats covered on a lot of parts that break. If you break a roller lifter at 5000rpms, and trash the engine, then what gets warrantied???
There are just so many variables. Salt vs fresh water???? was the part actually used within its limits or was it pushed beyond them???
