Whats the best older 26+
Hello Everyone,
I am interested in buying an older offshore boat, most likely in the 1980's as thats what funds can handle without selling off some other toys. $20,000 range is what we are talking about. True not much $ although I have seen a fair amount of older boats in that range in the classifieds here. The main issue is I am in Norcal and the boats for that amount seem to be mid west and Florida area's. Ok so my question is what is the best boat from that era to be looking for. i.e. Formula, Baja, etc. I could be in a position to spend more if needed tho... The boat will be used for inland lake cruiseing and towing my drag boat around- also the potencial to stay aboard for a night or two...... Thanks in advance for any input, Denco |

I bought my 1982 Excalibur Hawk 40ft for 25k this summer. It did need a new bulb for the tach, oh and trim pumped leaked. Actaully, I had a couple tune up issues, but so far so good :drink:

Re: Whats the best older 26+
The Formula 242LS falls into your price range. Where do you boat? I have one I run around on the delta that has been an absolute blast. I have a 502 in mine and see a top speed of around 65.

Re: Whats the best older 26+
Here's my local picks if you want to stay above 26'. I don't know your style so I went with these. There's alot of awsome boats back east but you will spend $$ getting them to you with gas prices like they are.

http://www.cbpba.com/forums/showthre...&threadid=1931 Yesterday I spent the day waxing the boat from top to bottom. I've advertised this boat online in the local papers. Not much interest. I think the price is reasonable ($13.5K), who knows. This must not be the time of year to be selling a boat. |

I think Chuck's 242 is a fantastic buy. I'd like to have it myself, but I just can't justify another boat.
There's also a 242 on boat trader with twins for under 10 grand. I had one of them, and I loved it. |
Re: Whats the best older 26+

Re: Whats the best older 26+
Thanks all, I appreciate your time in looking up all those boats!!
I cant wait to get one..... I did like the 29 Scarab, the graffix are a bit much but not to dated at least... It's to bad none are close like within a 100 miles. I have been on the boat chase with my wife many times and it's a lot of dissipointments after a long and spendy ride :( Typically the bad a$$ new motors advertised always seem to fall short of the printed material!!!! I keep checking here and up date as I find stuff. Again thanks VERY much.. Denis |
Re: Whats the best older 26+

Re: Whats the best older 26+
I think you should look at 27' excaliburs.. my old boat is for sale by my step dad... I think the is asking in the high 20k's it has a 540 in it with a #3 speedmaster. I got hurt and can't boat or I would buy it from him.. pictures I posted are in the excalibur section.
