Canmando,

Don't feel bad, I had to replace a Air Pump?????? Because the on board computer said it was bad. I looked all through my manual for a air pump, not one in there??????

27 -- Does your car have auto-leveling? That system uses a pump. Perhaps that's what it is.

Just a thought...

Just got a call from my local BMW dealer, they just received in two new 745i's.

I can't wait to see them and will be there in the morning.

Love those big Beamers!

CATMANDO--the cold start valve is an additional injector that sprays fuel when starting-kinda like a choke is to a carb motor-as far as the oil thing-i said we havent seen an oil related problem in 160k--not that we havent changed the oil in 160k

27--the air pump you taking about is the pump in the fuel tank that creates vaccum-if the fuel cap is left off it loses vac.causing the check eng. light to come on--the epa doesn't want fuel vapors coming from the tank so thats how it is monitored

My dad has a 98 740i, and it has given him no problems. the car is one of the most comfortable I have ridden in. He had a 560 sl in the early 90's and put over 200,000 miles on the car with no problems as well. I like Mercedes, but I personally think his BMW is a nicer car. He compared both before buying and felt he got more for his money with the BMW.

Buy/Browse a copy of Car & Driver, get the tool to reset the oil light from the ads in the back, do it yourself...

Old Jag?

The only reason the English don't make TV sets is they couldn't figger out how to make them LEAK OIL...used to be a place in Texas called JAGUARS THAT RUN, swapped small block chevies into 'em.

Im sorry to hear everyones problems with their BMW's. My father has had a total of three. A 95 M3, 99 540i sport and now his baby, a 02 M5. He has never had any problems with any of them. Sure oil changes might be expensive, thats because it is special BMW oil formulated specially for their engines. They are one of the best cars we have ever owned and the M5 always turns heads where ever it goes. Peace Out

Cat-as i stated in my prev. post--there is no set milage--the computor takes into consideration: starts/miles driven/how hard (i,e, tack and temp guage)and counts down from there--i have seen it as low as 10kmiles or as far out as 16k miles--it all depends on how/what type of driving you do--NO SET MILAGE--john
