Same condition exists at all levels of racing. Three years ago I was at a OPC/kneeldown race and standing next to this guy wit an Nikon and 800mm tele. We started chatting and he started complaining why I wasn't charged entry fee when my photos were all over the net.
The answer is simple and agrees with APBA/SBI philosophy...
I DO NOT SELL NOR MAKE PROFIT ON ANY OF MY PHOTOs
Even though APBA/SBI/OSS, etc/etc and the specific venues I attend will profit from my photos, I charge NO ONE...not even you..
Bottom line.. ---Do not charge for your magazine and you most likely will get a no charge to attend..

See, retirement does have it's privileges!
Don Marc, just so I know, how much was that "entry fee"? How many hundreds of dollars?

I just want to add a recent experience.
I went to the APBA Inboard event in Wildwood, NJ. It was a huge event.
I told them who I was and what I do with my personal website.
I just wanted to browse the pits to get pictures of the teams and the boats as well the vendors and sponsors.
No one asked me to come, no one knew I was even coming.
The organizer Ann Fitzgerald was called to come talk with me. She had me sign their waiver and give her my information.
With that, she granted me access free of charge and then added me to her media pass list for the race next year.
With that, they had as much promotion of the event as I could possibly put out and splattered the pictures of their event all over the internet.
That was very nice of her to allow me in their playground. She took my word for who I was,and followed up with me the following week after seeing her event on the internet.
I don't get to those type races at all, but this one made me want to come back!
Especially when one of the racers offered to put my logo on the side of his boat!
