Who is running an Epirb on thier boat?
Does anyone know what is a good inexpensive Eprib for the Florida area?
I readed that the McMurdo and ACR Epribs failed when tested in the Keys. I also read that the ones that don't hook up to to your GPS can take 30 to 45 minutes for the coast guard to get a position on you. |
Re: Who is running an Epirb on thier boat?
There are 3 different classes, the more expensive ones are satellite/GPS based and will be far more effective in an emergency. No matter which ones you get though the local responder will still find you much easier if you have a flare or smoke signal when he gets close.

I'm sure some of you go offshore at night alone...
I'm thinking of getting this Eprib, but I heard some of the ACR's don't transmit in some areas of the KEYS. Anyone know if this model is any good? EPIRB - RapidFix 406 w/GPS Interface - Cat I Automatic http://www.westmarine.com/images/ful...dfixcat1_f.jpg |
