5200 need help

I would like to remove some extension boxes that have 5200 under them. I know this stuff is basically permanent but have heard of a very thin wire with rough surface that actually will cut through. Has anyone heard/tried this with any luck.

Any other ideas, I don't want to force it off as I have heard it will take gel with it. That is not an option. The transom is painted so I need to be extra careful here.

Thanks,
Rick

There is a release agent you can spray on the stuff to get it to come loose. It's available at most boat stores like BoatUS or West Marine. It works good but slow.

The release agent is your best bet.

Does that actual penetrate between the joint or just soften the surface? I have tried Anti-Bond before on other calk and it didn't do much. Is there something that works better?

ive used piano with to cut out urethaned windows it should work for your application but i would try the chemical route first, then the heat method and the wire as my third choice.

Heat it up !! It softens it.

Float a telephone pole in the water, hit it at about 60 and you will be all set :D Make sure you tie a rope to everything so you can pull it back on board, also hit it square or you may only take one off and you may spin the boat. That would be a dangerous outcome and we don't want to do anything stupid here ya know. :D I would be very leary of heat, you can make the gel brittle there and weaken. I like the wire idea, it is clean and it sounds like an easy way. If anything you can use the chemical to soften it and then cut it with wire. People say this stuff is so strong but it has failed on me before. I am sure yours is a strong bond if you can pick it up.

I used a heat gun, constant pressure and a lot of patience when I took my K-planes off. As soon as it gets to a certain temp it gets gooey and you can pull it apart.
