Re: Cobalt 360 vs Formula 370 SS
I spent the day on a 400SS last Saturday and it's a very well made and designed boat. I also saw a 360 Cobalt out on the lake on tuesday and was suprised at how fast it was going. I didn't run next to it to check, but I'd say they were running 50mph+. I'm sure the 370 can run with it speed wise (the 400ss with 502's runs low 50's)

Re: Cobalt 360 vs Formula 370 SS
I have been on and operated both boats. My post isn't intended to upset or beat up either brand, everyone has their opionion, I'm just fortunate in that I have been on both of these boats.
My suggestion as anyone would say, would be to drive both boats. Everyone will have their own opinions and this is simply mine. Personally for me it's the Formula hands down. Better ride, better response, better performance, and better looks in my opinion. 370SS with do 60+ with HO's. Cobalt is definitly a beautiful boat, but looks don't necessarily determine the quality of a boat. While both companies build quality boats, I believe the Formula is higher quality. If I remember correctly the Cobalt is gel coat versus Formula's Imron. I'll take Imron any day of the week especially in a dark color like blue or black. I had two issues with the Cobalt when I operated it. First was the head room when the forward bimini was all the way forward. I felt cramped standing up and I'm 6' in my bare feet. My second issue was watching the bow rail shake as I cut through waves on Lake of the Ozarks. Again, just my opinion. Both great boats and cater to a person who would like performance while being able to be comfortable with a larger group. |
Re: Cobalt 360 vs Formula 370 SS
Twiggins, I appreciate your unbiased opinion. I have been researching our next boat for a while now and always seem to come back to the Formula. I really like the fact it has the Fasttech hull.
Like I said earlier the somewhat unique styling, IMHO, of the Cobalt is what attracted it to me first. Also with the growing popularity of the 370, at least in my area, I didn't want to be just another 370 owner. Although I guess when something is popular there is usually a reason why. Funny you mentioned lack of headroom in the cockpit with the bimini up on the 360, I noticed cabin headroom is not listed in any of the ads I've seen. Makes me wonder why. Next summer I plan getting more serious about looking at and riding in some of these boats. Thanks again for everyones opinion and if anyone has anything else to add let me hear it. Makes a cold, rainy, non-boating weekend more enjoyable. Andrew |

Have surveyed both of them.

Re: Cobalt 360 vs Formula 370 SS
I was just on both at the Metro beach boat show. The 360 is a nice boat but I like the 370 Formula better. The mid cabin on the 360 is nearly a joke and the deck is not to my liking in the back. I think you can fit more people on the deck of the 360 but it does seem shallower and less safe than the Formula 370. As far as quality from what I see the formula is best in this class of boat.

Ive been on both, but only driven the 370ss. Both great boats, definatly more cabin headroom in the Formula. I prefer this all day long vs the Cobolt. Here is another thought, check out the Chris Craft 36 Corsair, no mid cabin but has a few neat options that are not offered by the other two, you might be pleasantly surprised. God luck Jeff
