Anyone know if handheld CB works very well compared to a fixed unit whit a antenna on the roof? I know the have the same output.

I don't think so. Fixed with a big antenna will be better. I have mine mounted on the roof of Ram... K40 which pops off when I'm not trailering.

I may be partial selling New Peterbilt's for 14 yrs and an old trucker coast to coast but I won't trailer without one.

Hey , I know the winters can get pretty cold in Wisconsin, but it looks like you could stand a shave and haircut !

Its funny you ask I just hooked up my old Galaxy88
Super mobile CB in my Dually for my upcoming
drive to FL.

It has been in my cellar for 12 years.

There nice when traveling get routes directions
and just good for killing time and staying awake.

good for maybe a mile at best.

all VHF radios work on line of sight, the primary limitation is height/design of antennae which is why handhelds tend to have decreased range over a fixed unit.

Increasing wattage in many instances will not increase range a whole lot, however when multiple signals are present the more powerful one will be heard over the other. Bare min. get a handheld, I personally always have a backup handheld (icom m88) in my bag and a fixed unit onboard.

Cheap radios tend not to last when a boat is run hard in rough water, i suggest getting a good quality unit and keep a backup around, just in case. A couple hundred bucks is cheap insurance.
