China's getting all the work because the labor works for dick!!
Remember when all the cheap $hit cam from Japan? Remember
when Japan was the industrial giant everyone threw up in our face?
Then something happend in Japan. The people got smart. They
wanted to live like humans. Bam!! all the electronics went to Korea.
Now the Koreans want a life. Now all that biz is heading for or in
China. Its all a matter of who does it cheap. It just pisses me off
that the government doesnt work in our best intrest. They have
allowed the Chinks to keep there currancy artificialy low against
the dollar. Our plants have to meet all kinds of enviromental regs,
labor laws and high taxes. Yet they allow product to come in from
China that meets none of those standards. How do we compete??

Sorry for your situation, but too old to learn something new at 50? I got my mom a new PC last week and she's sitting there learning how to use it all now and she's 81. As a business owner, you have the responsibility to be learning something new all the time! If you company is standing still doing the same thing over and over, your going down. It's comfortable to do the same thing, but you have to grow and update technology, processes and procedures to be somewhat competitive. Sometimes it takes risk such as moving to newer technology. CNC machining is not new....it's over 20 years old!

If your machines are sitting still at any time, you are losing revenue. Try to think of some markets that you can serve and be competitive in. It might be hard now with older equipment, but it will be even harder later. Waiting for things to "get better" is a death sentence for the company.

Not saying that I agree with the "chinks" comment, because really it isn't their fault. I do agree however with what you are saying in general. The government is allowing job losses in alot of industries. What are we supposed to do if we cannot build cars, make parts, run our computer systems, make clothing ect... ect... ? I have even heard that Xrays are being digitally transmitted in some hospitals to India. Basically they have X ray "guys" (don't know the term) in India looking at and reading the results of Xrays and sending them back to the hospital with the diagnosis. Dude, things are going to get really, really bad unless something gets done and fast.

As a business owner I don't want the government protecting me by taxing imports. We operate in a global economy and I'll compete with anyone with a level playing field. If my overseas competition has to abide by the same environmental, safety and labor laws bring them on. Free trade should mean fair trade, Let OSHA and Green Peace go over seas and clean up other countries, then will see if they can compete with us.

Ageed 100%. I don't think anyone can compete with
us on a level playing field. The problem is, it Ain't level.
Thats where the government needs to step in.After
all,the are the ones negotiating the trade deals.
