Got my boat back from DEA today........
 

Finally got the Fountain back from DEA today. Rbr2328 and I retrieved it from a yard about 50 miles from where it disappeared 2.5 years ago. It's not pretty, but it is mine again.

The hull has some scarring from a fire that was outside the boat, and the interior is a mess. After some screw removal and some jumping we got the bilge open. The motors and mechanicals look the same as when it went missing. All the interior I had redone looks like azz. The fire damaged(melted) the edge of the sunpad and side padding. The carpets and front bolsters are soaked and mildewed. The cabin door had been left uncovered and the floor had about 4inches of water. It looked like they had tried to SKI behind it as I found 9 life-jackets and 3 ski ropes in the boat.

The part that pissed me off is the interior. I was emailed pics of the boat in July, the pics were dated June 6th. In the pics the interior looked like it was in very good condition, still white and dry. Today when i saw it it was very disappointed as it had been left uncovered through all the bad weather for the last 3 months. Now the ballkicker, I found the UNDAMAGED cockpit cover in the cabin !!! If they had only let me see the boat for 5 minutes when they found it I could have saved a few thousand in cockpit damage. I'm stunned, but it was government work so what should I expect.

I'm glad to have it back, we will be going over it thoroughly in the next few days so i will give a complete update. Rbr2328 will take lots of pics tomorrow and post the best ones.

I bet the DEA dicks used the boat for the last two years, they partied on it and trashed it then figured they didn't want to clean it so they called you. :D Congrats though, you could make some money on this, did you have to buy it from the ins company?

Nah, it was still sitting on the same trailer at the shop where they confiscated it. They pulled it outside though and apparently just left it there. I was never paid by the ionsurance company. State Farm had an exclusion they used to fight paymeny and won. See my thread labeled "Check your insurance policies for this" t help protect yourself.

I AM happy to have it back, it's just the fact some damage could have been prevented. :rolleyes:

A friend of My Dad had his 1963 Corvette Convertible confiscated (short version is his kid was in trouble not him) the top was down ,the DEA took the car to Detroit and it sat in a parking lot for four years with no top.He was able to prove the car was his in the first two weeks and they would not release it for four years!

Greg, Give me a call in the am. Im flying to Ohio for my court date with a mediator on Tuesday to try and settle my whole mess. Ill keep you updated. I will be there Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday then flying out to LV for the weekend for a Jimmy Buffett concert, Hopefully Ill have good news and be able to celebrate a little bit while Im out there

Glad you got her back, but sorry about the interior. That sucks big time. Sounds like all was well until the Feds got their hands on it. :mad:

I very happy for you to get your boat back. It sucks about the interior but look at it this way.....if the fire had happened with the cover on...then there might not be much left of anything to salvage!!! Either way just look at the positive side of everything! :D

Well that just shows what happens when you party all weekend and no sleep this work week. LMAO

I sold what was left of it for pennies to a guy from Kentucky. He was gonna restore the fire damage. I look occasionally on trader to see if it is for sale.

Don't want it back, just like to see if it got finished.

I remember that boat. It sat next door to a shop that I was subleasing space at for quite a while. I always wondered what the situation was with the boat.
