Wilma is a Cat 5
This hurricane season has been horrible. :( They just said Wilma is now the most intense ever in the Atlantic basin.

Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
I just bought airfare last night for Key West and on the way to work this morning I hear this!!!!!! I hope it dodges the Keys. Good luck to everyone down south, if anyone needs to get out of town I have a couple of extra bedrooms available in Annapois Md.

175mph sustained winds. Holy sht!!! When the hell did this happen? Overnight??
|
Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
Hurricane force winds are currently extending out only 15 miles so this is a very small hurricane. Katrina had hurricane force winds out 130 miles?

Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
Hurricane force winds currently extend out FIFTY (50) miles (not 15) and tropical force winds 160 miles. Due to such record rapid intensification, eyewall configuration had little time to form. Watch the eyewall go through reformation cycles over next 12 hours, affecting intensity temporarily each cycle. Eye will increase in size through this transformation process.
This is a huge storm, and at 882 MB, strongest central pressure ever recorded. It should reduce strength (hopefully) to a Cat 3 or so by FL landfall, due to cooler waters in Gulf and approaching shear. But,still probably a major hurricane and all interests in the Gulf should heed all warnings and get outa Dodge. All, just in my humble opinion, as I am not a professional, nor am I rendering any professional advice, percieved or not! |
Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
I'm supposed to be heading to Ft Lauderdale on Tuesday for the show, first time ever to go to Florida. Looks like I may not go after all :(
We'll be praying for all those in Wilma's path. Corey and Jen |
Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
If it hits the cape coral area, could somebody get a damage report to me, I am a little nervous about my place down there.

looks like the keys might be spared the biggest part, but remember the front right quadrant of the storm is usually the strongest, if it turns back south at all KW might get hammered... :(

Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
If this thing hits the Keys direct, it would probably take out the seven mile bridge. Not good.

Cat 5? (sorry :D)
|
Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
Unless something strange happens, (a ship blown into the bridge), the Seven mile bridge is designed for a hurricanes, the original bridge held up to the 1935 hurricane which had wind speeds about 200mph (Took a train off the tracks) Monroe county has very strict building guide lines for hurricanes

Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
And Key West is getting to be experts at the clean-up process. We've had enough practice this year.

Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
This sucks !!! We are having a Halloween Party on Sat. night (might be a hurricane party), and the race boat is on the trailer over in Satellite Beach......this means the pleasure Extreme (which doesn't have a trailer yet) will be sitting on the lift !!!!   :( Dave

Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
If you see him, Brandy or lil' Nick, Tell him he better start working out because the big Indian from Wisconsin will be down for Christmas to kick his Italian butt

BBB......will do, If I see him.........and be sure to let me know when it's going to happen. The only other excitement in Marathon on Xmas is Santa arriving on the fire truck in shorts, and the KCB boat parade.

Donna, I thought we'd give Fantasy Fest and the Lauderdale boat show a shot this year. That might be changing to race week now though!
|
Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
heard on the news this AM that fantasy fest was cancelled / postponed ?
|
Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
They are talking about starting it on Tuesday now or completely cancelling it. Nothing is set in stone yet.
|
Re: Wilma is a Cat 5
Local Miami news is showing key west people (Fastbuck Freddies) putting up their shutters full dressed in costume.
It's great.........it will probably hit nat'l news later. |
