Rescuers Search New York City River After Boat Crash
NEW YORK (Oct. 24) - A power boat slammed into a private rowing club's boat early Monday and knocked its four occupants into the water, injuring three of them and leaving the fourth missing, authorities said. Coast Guard, police and fire boats searched the Harlem River, which separates upper Manhattan and the Bronx, for the missing man after the accident around 6:30 a.m. The other three rowers, one of them suffering a serious head wound, were fished out of the water by the two people on the powerboat and taken to Harlem Hospital, police detective Bernard Gifford said. It was not immediately known how fast the powerboat was going or whether the running lights were on. The results of a breath test given to the skipper were negative, Gifford said. 10/24/05 09:41 EDT Copyright 2005 The Associated Press |

USCG said speed was not a factor & that the 29' runabout was only capable of around 20kts. It was on it's way to be winterized in CT.
That was on the local news last night. |
