SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- An armed man fired several shots near a film set for a "Miami Vice" movie, and a soldier standing guard shot and wounded him, the film's studio said Tuesday.

The cast was filming inside a hotel Monday night in Santo Domingo's colonial district when the man allegedly approached the soldier standing guard outside, pulled out a pistol and fired several shots, Universal Pictures said in a statement.

The soldier, who wasn't hit, fired a single shot, hitting Mario Torres in the side, Dominican police spokesman Simon Diaz said.

The soldier was part of a team assigned to provide security for the production, which stars Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell and is directed by Michael Mann.

"None of the film's cast and crew was hurt," Universal said. "An investigation by ... local authorities is under way regarding the incident, and the production is cooperating with this investigation

"Miami Vice" is based on the U.S. television police series that aired in the 1980s and is tentatively due in theaters next year.
