MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
After carefull study, I have decided to re-power my 76 27' Magnum with the ILMOR MV10-625. Until recently, I never thought it would fit without raising the rear deck or making other modifications. But it fits perfectly, and is actualy not as high or as wide as the 525 EFI. And besides that, it's 300# lighter. You can't beat their one-year warranty either. If your motor goes sour, they'll ship you a brand new one within 24 hours at no cost. I haven't seen the fine print yet, but it sounds pretty good to me. If any members have an ILMOR, I'd really appreciate your comments. I'm not familiar with their PLATINUM drive package, and could use some advice on that, versus the ARNESON SD that I originally planned to use with the 525. With the additional 100 HP, I just might break 100 MPH, that's my goal. Michel, at ILMOR has just been fantatic with my requests for details, not like Mercurys people. They sent me everything I asked for, and more. And I did't have to wait days for it, it was within hours. I want to thank all OSO members for all your advice and comments, especially RHC, 375 STINGER and 24DEGREES. And 24DEGREES, I'll be sending you pictures soon. Tony

Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
Are you saying that Ilmor requires you to purchase the motor and Platinum drive as a package only, you cant just purchase the engine ?
If not, I'd stick with the ASD to keep the boat completely bulletproof. |
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
Isn't Ilmor hooked up with Teague for the outdrive?
|
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
They'll sell the engine separate. I'm still planning on using the Arneson, but I'd like to know more about the Platinum drive just for my own knowledge. They're not pushing their drive, but they did give me a good price on a package deal and a price on their drive separately.

Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
I'm not sure about their relationship with Teague, but I think you're right.

FLYWITHME
Thats so cool. Any photos of the 27 Magnum?? Iam rigging av 28 Arrow (a cousin to your boat) I'll go with a Chevy 572/620 on XR-drive and my goal is 75knots (86mph) and then more i think.... |
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
never do a 100mph .....
|
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
I think I read an article in Hotboat on the Ilmor/teague platinum drive package, is it a years warranty on the drive also?
|
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
If there's a will, there's a way. All I can do is try. With only one engine and drive, I'm saving about 900# and the 300# lighter Ilmor. I think I'll get close.
|
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
I'm not sure about the drive warranty yet. ILMOR is puting all the information together as we speak.

Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
Sounds like an awesome setup. I love the old Magnums, the new ones are pretty awesome also. I was thinking about Ilmore/ASD combo when/if I repower.
Get some pics up when you get it. -Rick |

Heres a pic of a Arrow with a KE 572/680hp. I'll send you an email during the weekend. We have a nice kind a step in the hull, some of the guys who produce 28's in US should give us a call.... ;-) Mange |

I spoke to the sales manager at Illmor a few months back.....after they got the engine up and running a while back they realized that the torque would rip a bravo to shreds in no time at all. They initially tested the engines therefore with #6 drives and as you can imagine it was a marriage made in heaven...except for the price of the out-drives of course...so they looked around and found that Teague could supply drives and also market their engines for that matter.
In my opinion I would personally go with #6's or Arneson Surface Drives with the engines...but that's just me. Put a Blower on a 625HP Illmor Viper engine and 875 HP/726 ft lb torque.. becomes reality with enough torque to scare little kids and women and that's a nice economical way to achieve level of performance that I think. http://www.ilmor.com/625.html Boost: 7-8 40% HP Gain 21% Torque Gain System Number: 1201840 Suggested Retail Price: $7,999.95 http://www.paxtonauto.com/systems.as...t&Part=1201840 |
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
Approx how much does an Ilmor MV-10 625 sell for?

Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
The Ilmor is a great choice. I have 2 of the 625 Ilmors and I can tell you they are absolutely bulletproof. I have been on about 6 poker runs and several fun runs and not the first problem. They run and sound great. I also like the fuel economy as well. I have been a GM man all my life and never thought I would have a dodge product of any kind, but Ilmor has made a believer out of me. They have the best customer service of all manufactures I have ever dealt with. You can not go wrong. I also know several of my friends who are currently considering the Ilmor package.

Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
Hydrocruser, I like the idea of that blower. I'll have to check it out and see if I have enough room. I have no intentions whatsoever to change anything to the Magnum deck or cockpit. IT IS and allways will be THE MAGNIFICENT MAGNUM
Nobody has ever designed and built a boat like it, and they probably never will. To me, it is the sexiest offshore ever built. It's long, sleek, and the cockpit is as far aft as it could be. The cuddy doesn't have creature comforts that most other boaters want, BUT, other boats don't look like a Magnum. Never have, and never will. Thanks for your suggestion. With that setup I just might break 100! Tony |

Still, the 625's I would have to say are equal to the 525's I have run with similiar size boats with the 525's and some with the 500EFI's and I am always within a couple of gallons of the same fuel usage as them. I would like to run with another 41' Velocity w/525's to get a good comparison. |
Re: MAGNUM & ILMOR JOIN FORCES
Steet, are you planning any poker runs this year?
