I stuffed my 31 Sonic on Lake Ontario. Playing in 5-6' waves spaced fairly close, I got a little heavy on the throttle, having a blast when I realized I was looking at a vertical wall of water about 10-12' all by itself. Smashed straight into it, luckily I swallowed most of the water so no worries about sinking!:fish: Ontario frequently has rogue waves, often in groups of 3 known as the 3 sisters. They sneak up on you when you have a rythem going and the trim and tabs perfect. Helps you remember who is really in control-the lake!:p

DELAWARE BAY 31 CHRIS CRAFT STINGER 6 TO 8 FOOTERS FOLLOWING SEA 30 TO 35MPH 3 OF US ON THE SUNPAD LYING DOWN 1 OF US GETS WASHED INTO THE BAY AS WE GO FACE FIRST INTO A 6 FOOT WALL OF WATER.BROKEN WINDSHIELD.BROKEN PRIDE.MY FATHER AND BROTHER RETRIEVED ME FROM THE BAY AND CONTINUED OUR TRIP BACK HOME. LESSON LEARNED....NO PASSENGERS ON SUNPAD WHILE UNDERWAY. 2. WHILE IN A FOLLOWING SEA, ROLL OVER THEM AT AN ANGLE, NOT DEAD ON! |
I stuffed a 18 foot Wriedt Stinger jet boat behind a barge on the llinois river about 25 years ago. A real submarine job. I saved it though, as I popped back up, I hit the throttle and the bilge pump at the same time. I saved the boat but the chips were ruined and it removed all 7 coats of makeup from the chick setting in the back seat.....0 points for that one!

Stuffed a 38 Top Gun... It hurt...Big seas...At night...No questions please!

This happened years ago. A friend just got his first boat. It was a 16 or 18 foot Evenrude Sportsman. There were 4 or 5 of us on board. We were out all day drinking and I was showing him how to surff and jump wakes. We were all around 21,22 and fearless.
We were running around the Indian River. I was sitting in the passenger seat front looking towards the stern conversing with the guy behind me. Suddenly his eyes got real big and his jaw dropped. I turned around to see a 12 to 14 foot wave comming over the bow. The owner with no experence was frozen at the wheel and throttle. We were only about half way up the wave as the boat punched through. His being frozen at the wheel saved us through the first one. Water rushed across the bow up over the wind shield and as it closed in on us from above and on the sides we broke through. Water never entered the boat. It was like driving a convertable fas in the rain the wave hit the rear foot of the engine hatch. Upon regaining some composer. I see we are headed out the inlet we are in 12 to 14 foot extremly steep waves with about 1 to 3 foot of white cap at the top of the curl and quite close spacing. I am at that point looking for nearest nearest shore. Rock walls on each side thinking of all the sharks I had hunted in this area with bang sticks. We are headed into the next wave my friend is starting to throttle back and says he is going to turn around. I yell NOooo and reach across and grab the wheel pulling it back strait and screaming hammer it. Thank God he does and the boat actually passes through that wave almost gracefully. The owner looks at me I tell him this is it we cant turn around untill we get way passed the inlet and break walls unless there is a wave missing. Well with me controling the wheel from the passenger seat yelling at the owner when to get in and out of the throttle we punched and ran through a few more waves. Coming out of the backside I noticed a gapp in the waves quickly turned the wheel had him hit the gas caught the next wave and hooked into it surfing it back inside the inlet. Into what is called the sun parlor. Were we shut the engine off and droped anchor pulled out what was left of our beer. Poped the tops just staired at each other for a bit before moving on. The next day my friend took his dad out in the boat and the engine blew up. I was blamed for it |
I've stuffed my Checkmate, in the Pacific Ocean, just outside the breakwater jetty in Long Beach, I stuffed my Eliminator in the Gulf of Mex. near Destin, and stuffed my Velocity in the Atlantic Ocean, near the Cocoa Beach Pier. No damage from any of them, usually a case of TOO small of a boat for the water conditions.

Madcow,
Thanks for posting the picture of the boat! That is the one I stuffed in Key West in 1996. Haven't looked at the album in a long time. Gonna go home and look through some old photos! |
Overtaking a tug boat on the Susquehanna in Md. came off the 1st of 4 waves cleared the 2nd came off the 3rd and went straight thru the 4th one!!! Wall of water over our headsand most of it cleared the cockpit. Boat landed fine Got soaked looked over at the wife and we started laughing, not much else to do Boat was fine , a little wet. Pressure washed off the lower bay salt water spray :p :D

I stuffed a 38 foot Larry smith kevlar SCARAB with 3 outboards. I did special dive and boat stuff for the NAvy. 6-7footers off the coast of Port HUeneme Calif running around 50 when after landing from a big jump the next wave was closier and took about 2 feet of GREEN water over the WHOLE boat. Engines kept running and so did the bildge pumps. scared the **** out of me. All I have to say it a Larry Smith Scarab is biult to last. Many of times I had the boat so high that it came straight down on the motors. thank god MIKE J did the rigging first rate or the motors were sure to have come off. The boat flew perfect although all that was in it was a 3 person bolster and 120 gal of gas. Do interior or any thing else.

Stuffed a 26 Scarab in 92 on the way back from Chicago to Hammond around 11pm when the Storm blew up. Stuffed a 38 Sonic in 99 outside of South Haven bent the wheel, it was like going off a cliff into the next one. Duck when it is coming. Haven't stuffed the Apache !:D |
This summer I had my parents, cousin, his wife and 13yr. old daughter on my 28 Cig. We were in Sandusky Bay it was gettin dark and kinda rough they were in a hurry to get home (west Harbor) and the women were in the back *****ing about how rough it was:rolleyes: So I had my tabs pretty far down going about 60 trying to keep as smooth a ride as I could. We hit a group of 3 or 4 large waves coming out of the bay onto the lake. The first one brought the boat outa the water, the second caught the transom and slammed the bow down right into the base of the 3rd. My dad saw it coming and ducked, my cousin and I ate the wave as we plowed right through it. As the wave shot over the deck it felt like my head was being ripped off. Definately not fun.
As non boaters none of them had any idea what was going on, and when we got back to the dock they thought it was cool and wanted to do it again. |
The boat was a U19 (19foot deep V ) the boat is very low profile classic 18 donzi style, no windshield.I was on a date,we were both dressed up , my date (now my wife) was in a gown.We went to a restaurent and traveled all inshore in the state chanel .After the affair , I wanted to show off a little and ran towards the Jones beach Inlet at about 70mph, it was calm 1 to 2 footers ,perfect for a 19foot 24degree V hull, hit a 3 footer launched for great air then out of nowhere a 6 footer was breaking over the top , no time to even yell, the boat went from 70mph to 25mph instantly ,the force of the water tore the gown off my date (funny now-not at all funny then)tore the contacts out of her eyes ,gave me 2 black eyes and a bloody nose,I powered through as best I could but had to pull a hard port turn as the boat lost to much speed to go through another wave .A self bailing cockpit and 2 bilge pumps kept us afloat. the boat ran long enough to get us back inside then stalled from water intake we both had black and blue knees I broke 2 ribs and the boat had to have fuel injectors removed and cleaned .Purely a case of not enough boat and too big water.Never forget who is in charge.
I asked her to marry me the next day !U19 is a great hull no damage ! |

There are two types of stuffs talked about here. A stuff that happens when your going too slow for the water conditions and those that are caused by a transom trip at high speed. The high speed ones were generally caused by too much trim for the conditions or going too fast. The slow speed ones are cause by not enough speed or hull length. edit - memorial day weekend ky lake - windy... was first time I had ever boated in anything over a rogue 2 footer. |
I've tunneled a couple waves but always came back out the other side. Watched a buddy "stuff" a 20' boat once. Stopped him dead like he hit a brick wall. We still think the bow hit bottom at some point. Lucky to be alive. Chalk it up to being stupid kids with boats.

"we got back to the dock they thought it was cool and wanted to do it again" lmao

When I had my 22' Donzi, I used to plow through waves all the time but not really stuff it.
Worst stuff: I was navigator in a race boat and we stuffed it off of Long Island. 60+ to 0 instantly. I hit the dash as the water poured over the bow and got knocked back into the bolster. Cracked ribs and some bruised kidneys all around but the boat was fine. Regrouped and finished the race. Funniest: 2004, my first time running 1000 Islands Poker Run. I had a 29' Kryptonite, myself, my good friend Adam and my good friend Boxy who I had met for the first time that weekend. Boxy was good friends with one of my other friends and he was our navigator since I was unfamiliar with the water. As we were getting ready to start the run, he tells me to be very careful on the start because as the boats turn out of the harbor and head up river, the wakes stack up and it is easy to stuff the boat. So what do I do... I get on plane, head for the turn and proceed to stuff it right into a wall of water that built up from all the wakes. I had two feet of water roll down the bow, Adam and I ducked and Boxy took it square in the face! We all got soaked, the cockpit was saturated but everyone and the boat made it out ok. It wasn't until 5 miles later that the engine quit and created another epic story. Good time! |
I was a passenger in a 32 Dominator that had a slow speed stuff at LOTO near the Grand Glaize bridge back in the early 2000's. Was a hot day so the water felt good! Weird seeing the cockpit full of green water!

I was racing a 25 express cat back in 1990 and stuffed in Bay City Michigan. It stuffed so hard we had mud from the botton of the lake on the pickle forks.
|
Not really a stuffed but kinda lol. We got to playing around spinning a ski boat. A friend of ours wanted to try and he stuffed the nose and broke the pass side of the windshield out and filled our other buddies shorts with glass lol.

Stuffed my 12' Baja Scat Cat at least 50 times. Man, that boat was a POS and rode like crap.
Dipped the bow in on a 21' Checkmate one time but not too bad. Was on Lake George in a 22' Pontoon and the driver headed right into a cruise ship wake. A 2-3 foot wave went through the whole boat, soaking everyone and taking bags, coolers, etc. out the back. That was fun LOL |
No offense Gladhe8er, but I think I would really enjoy seeing a video of the pontoon one for some reason. I can totally picture it in my head. :drink:
|
I had a friend who had a small toon... my jackass buddies used to like to swarm the front making it stuff and stand straight up.
|
My Formula was broke, so me and one buddy took (3) 24 cases of PBRs, went out in his 15' 25hp jon boat, finished the beer then chased down barges jumpin the 4-5' rollers till we sank it. Looked up and ropes were thrown to us from all angles. Apparently we drew quite the crowd of onlookers and became the afternoon entertainment. That was forever ago, God gamn I'm glad I've grown up since then. Lol
