Anyone that has experience with these boxes, I would appreciate your comments.

I am looking at them because they allow the drive to be ajusted on the box.

Why would they be better or worse than, say, Imco boxes. They do seem to have more parts.

I do not have any experience with IMCo boxes. The Stellings allowed us plenty of access and worked great. It is important to have a good water tight seal/ gasket and the stellings provide that as well. We switched to # 6's and these and the tie bar are all that is left -

I don't have a set but from my research the advantage of the stelling boxes is that you can adjust the X diminsion right there in the box.

The IMCO's can't do that, but their big advantage is that they have a soft/rubber coupler. Unlike the hard coupler in the stellings, the IMCO soft coupler absorbs a lot of shock between the drives and engines, especially on reentry if you get the boat airborn. I know one engine builder who runs big power through XR's and he says his set up is reliable because the IMCO box saves the drives.

I have them on my boat,

They advertise that they're adjustable, but,
I have heard that you don't wan' to run them
in the bottom hole ( highest position) due to
shaft angle. ( unless you raise the engine accordingly)

Top hole is zero raise, middle is 1" up.

Mine are in the middle setting.

They're are more parts to maintain, namely
the carrier bearing and the u-joints.

I do like the simplicity of the IMCO, and that
they use the stock coupler ( for shock absorbtion)


I have heard of people using the IMCO shaft
and factory coupler in a Stellings box,
( you have to run in the top hole, or adjust up
the engine height accordingly)

IMCO also makes a box with 3" of raise built
into it, you have to raise the engine though.

I am using the Stellings boxes on my boat. I am running the middle hole and my engines set pretty high. My drive shaft has almost no angle though. I have some experience with these on a cat using the highest setting. It was constantly breaking driveshafts. Moving to the middle hole has fixed the problem. I have had no problems with mine.
