625hp in a 29' Fountain?

Has anyone installed 625+hp in a 29' fountain fever? The boat is a 2002 vintage. The boat will run 77-78mph with a 525 efi. However, hoping to get 85+mph with that amount of hp.

I think he is referring to a single motor application in which case those are some decent numbers.

Yes this is a single. They only put twin small blocks in the newer 29' fountains. Anymore input?

We had a 27' with a 525 SC at Everglades years ago with no steps and I KNOW it ran 75 MPH. I got a ticket in Port Everglades!

Has this speed been verified? That is a very good number for that power.

To much power is never enough. Pump it up ! as much as you can. It's addicting isn't it ? After going 90 with a smile that wraps around my entire head !, it's hard to enjoy a cruise in a "slow" boat. :D to me 625hp isn't enough. Unless it goes in a Skater... I'll find out how my 650-675 horse 540 does in my 24 Formula this summer. Maybe not enough boat but never too much motor !!! . You have a decent , good sized boat. Enjoy it !!! BBB

There is a 29 Fountain (single engine) on Lake Wylie south of Charlotte with over 1000 HP running 110 MPH!

Maybe some of the guys that know more of the details on this boat will come on here and share.

Re: 625hp in a 29' Fountain?

More input needed. I would like to make more power however I do not want to give up the stock appearance of the 525efi. Those 525efi headers are application specific, as far as the exhaust flanges are drilled.

I'm getting about 86 mph on GPS with a 1991 29' with twin
HP465's (502's w/ Bravos) without pushing it. Never have
accurately checked it hung out with just one person on board,
cause I was too busy "drivin' it"

Re: 625hp in a 29' Fountain?

Yea, I wasn't expecting it either and initially wrote it off to the mechanical
speedo cause it was bouncing between 85 and 90 for years.

Freshened up the motors due to piston cracking issues several
years ago, but put it back mostly stock since there was no motivation
to improve due to the rough water at Grand and also the low exit of the exhaust
with wet stacks, I could not get too agressive with cam overlap.
The less maintenance on that thing is best, since the bilge is not "fatboy friendly"

Also with the twin big blocks, you always will get "hey, your boat is sinking" comment
cause it is pretty butt heavy.

01 29 Fever F1 89.6 top speed w/ 500 EFI

I found that approx 81-83 when she was starting to lift out of the water was the tricky part, after that yes you had to be careful but she handled quite nicely. I know people get a rush or a bigger pecker from more horsepower but the boat I mention goes to show that HP isnt everything, its weight, balance, Center of Gravity, bottom blueprinted and 3 years of testing, now it has the kilo records to prove it. Just trying to advise you to think of everything b4 just throwing money away on bigger power. For ex one time, we gained .7 mph by adding a simple 2 $27.00 bags of 25 lbs of buckshot to the bow.
Just my .02

Hey Cameron, Why did you thank yourself in the last post?

Are you building the motor or Outsourcing?

If you want to go to the custom look, we do a 572 ci Hydraulic roller for wet exhaust. 725 hp, 750tq.

:D We have done about 4 29 Fountain Fevers with single 650 HP 1X4 540 Chevrolet. All 3 boats run right at 83-85 MPH with honest horsepower numbers. Under light fuel ideal water conditions.

Re: 625hp in a 29' Fountain?

I am in process of moving from an 04 29 that goes 78 - 79 with 1/2 tank or less fuel to a 38. Load the fuel and add 4 four people, I see 74 - 75. I could see you getting low to mid 80's with another 100 ponies. The 110 mph claim for that hull is doubtful to me. If it does go that fast, the guy driving it is got ice running through his veins. Many threads on the Fountain forum about this boat and this subject.... Good luck.

Believe me, I thought the EXACT same thing when I met the guy the first time and heard the claim. But several of my buddies that know him well and have been in the boat and confirmed that it is TRUE.

He as run it at the Jacksonville Poker Run.

My thoughts were the hull would be very dangerous at those speeds, but he says it runs like it is on rails.

Ask Mikes280 or Velocity Mark about this boat!

I believe this boat will run 83-84mph with a merc 575sci.
