I surveyed a 1999, two 2000s and a 2001 and they were all wonderful boats. The two 2000s were like new and were donated to National Charity Support in Jupiter, FL. for the tax write-off. You might call Ruud and see if they are still available.

Will they take trades on them?

I looked at this a few months back, but once i got into the 400SS I felt like I was still in a cruiser, kinda grampaish :D no, they seem like nice boats, very comfortable, but you still cant get them to go 80. Good luck.

Yeah, but I bet you could get the Donzi 41ZSC up to 80 with the surface drives.

http://www.boats.com/content/boat-ar...ontentid=18086

I don't see it on the Donzi website anymore though. They only list the 39ZSC. There was no significant boat difference, just an extended swim platform to cover the Arneson ASD8 drives.

Re: Formula 400 SS Wanted

The 400 SS is sportier than Formulas PC series, but it IS an express cruiser more than it's a high performance machine.

I actually liked the Donzi better vs the Formula, just personal preference. I also liked the xtra storage or call it a aftrberth behind the steps. Plus and minus to both boats, but you can get surface drives on the Donzi.

Re: Formula 400 SS Wanted

The Donzi is nice but I like the Formulas cockpit better and it will sleep 4 better. Plus the Donzi has 10 inches less head room and I'm 6'5".

Jassman 12-19-2005 07:18 PM

Re: Formula 400 SS Wanted

That 6'5" issue changes things. I thought the DONZI had 6'3" and the Formula 6'2" . Have you driven in either one in 2' or better seas.

I haven't been in either in water, I did ride in a 370ss and it wasn't bad. I have had performance boats the whole time, so all big slow boats feel the same. Even if I love it or hate it I'm only gonna have it two to three years then I'll get something else.
My wife want's to have a boat we can take her parents out on, her dad has loved all my boats but I can't get her mom on the Nortech. She almost fell off the dock when I started one motor. They are in their upper 70's so it will be cool to be able to put them around with the silent choice on :D . I had silent choice on the Sonic but her mom wears a wig and go fast boats and wigs don't mix.

I like the way the bench/sun pad on the Formula better than the smaller fixed sun pad on the Donzi.

So, If I read this right, your getting out of the Nor-Tech because your Mother-in-law wears a wig???

ratman 12-20-2005 04:55 PM

Re: Formula 400 SS Wanted

[QUOTE]mom wears a wig and go fast boats and wigs don't mix.[QUOTE] one strip of jc's duct tape over the wig and under the chin will secure that wig to 80+ mph no problem

Re: Formula 400 SS Wanted

I really like the formula 400ss Only other cruiser type I like as much is the Sunseeker Tomahawk, But I bet You will want to be back in to your Nortech by the time summer hits again, so maybe you should decide when its not so cold outside. Cold weather makes a boater do some crazy things. :drink: I was looking at a Dodge 4x4 with 42 tsl's and an 11in lift just to get me thru the cold season ehhe. :evilb:

Jassman 12-20-2005 07:09 PM

Re: Formula 400 SS Wanted

Take both boats out in 2' better seas and then tell me which boat you like, but do this first before you make a decision. It's very important, and I am only talking about these particular models, not the rest of the line up of either manufacturer.

Re: Formula 400 SS Wanted

No not getting just for the mother inlaw. I just want a change, I do it every 2-4 years. I know I want a fast boat again now, a 43 Nortech or a 42 OL with twin 1000hp or higher. But none of my friends I boat with have any thing faster than 75 mph, so when we go some place now I'm there an hour before them or have to run slower than my boat want's too.

Look at Jassman he's got his stuff for sale before it's done being built. :D

I have a buddy with a 2000 400ss he may trade you, but it has volvo power and drives, still goes 50mph
