As for as rigging and fit and finish Fountain may not be the best or worst but certainly is acceptable. i can speak from experience i owned a 42 fountain since 94 and never once have i had an issue with rigging failing and leaving me lemping home or being towed. could it be neater yes could it be more functional no ! But then i didnt expect it to be show quality but i did expect it to function without problems and it has. For the money there a good value hard to argue that fact. Fountains are a drivers boat they respond to trim and tab they have a spontanenious steering response and for the must part give a above average ride in the rough stuff for there size. ive seen many a larger boat try to keep up with Fountains 33/35 in rough water only to be surprised by its performance, and ive seen many a 42 surprise the others as to just how much rough water they can take, at the end of the day sitting at the dock if you can have a smile on your face and can say i had a good day boating, then there all good boats.

Well said. Fact is, the rigging is more than fine, it's very good. The custom builders simply offer more choice and prettier finish of detail. Not nearly enough to cost justify the difference. The Fountain out performs and delivers years of enjoyment. You can get the paint and add to the detail on any Fountain. Have a better performer for many less doallrs. You can get a 42 Ecex with 525's that runs mid 80's for around 240k. Put a blower on the 525's and run upper 90's. Play with the drives, and top 100. Make it look great or make it fly more. It's a great boat. Period.

I have a 35 executioner (1989 ) for many years and it held up very well in fact it looks new. With 700's it runs in the 90+ range turns on a dime. I also have a 35 supervee and w/ 525's it tops 110(still Dailing). Both run well in any water and they turn real well. Ive been in outerlimits, most sizes, there beautiful boats, a lot have flaws in the paint, rigging ,etc. They're very expensive when there new and they ride nice going straight. Tossing names like toyota and what have you in the ring is inacurate. I would say the comparison is more like a bentley to a ferrari and i dont have to say which is which.
Happy New Year,

PS this thread is kinda silly.

By the way, my Rolex keeps perfect time and I no longer own a Timex. Every few years you have to get the Rolex tuned at a Rolex dealer. Then it will work as well as the Timex.[/QUOTE]

mine keeps perfect time and has never been tuned or cleaned. it is worn on a daily basis no matter what i am doing; got it new in 96. and fountains dont fall apart in-front of their owners. like ive said before - fountain builds 500 boats per year and ol builds 20ish. thats like a comparison btwn wal-mart and a neighborhood grocery store.....

I have never bad mouthed O.L. I think they make an awesome
boat. But to compare an 800k boat to a 300k boat, straight
up, is ridiculous.
