Ez pass fast lane WATCH OUT

For years you could trailer with your ez pass and not get charged for the trailer. NOT ANY MORE!! I am not sure if this means that you no longer have to call them up to make changes when towing or not. Also be aware that if you have roof racks on your truck and or car that they are saying that these trick the sensors into thinking that you have a trailer behind you

don.t laugh at me but with the states now using photo radar and sending you a ticket in the mail I would suspect in the fast lanes they can also clock how fast you are going use the IPASS to know who you are and..................

Yep, I know someone (who shall remain nameless  ) who got a letter in the mail asking them to not tow a trailer through the ezpass lanes going 67 mph. :drink:

I just towed my boat from VA to NY about 3 weeks ago. The first 3 tow booths that I came to, I stopped and asked if there was an additional charge and they just waved me on and said no. After that I didn't even slow down. :D :evilb: :evilb:

I always roll through the Chesapeake Bay Brigde and it shows up on my statement as just a car.

Do they have a website?

Nope no story YET. I just saw a new artical on it last night. I know that I have always thought it was one of those things that they were going to work out but had not yet. Well I guess that they have figured out a way to do it..... ALMOST :(

As for the speeding tickets with Fast lane. I have heard that also but I highly doubt that they will start to do that. This is a way for the state to save a TON of money. If they started to do that you would see a lot of people hand them back in I would think. Secondly you go through tolls so fast that you can actually drive slower and arrive at the same time. I have had people blow past me and then I go past them as they waite in the toll lines. I never see them again. NY is the only state that you can register your dually as a car so I got mine there. It saves me HUGE on tolls. In Maine with out the fast lane it is 4.40 for me to go through, with it only 1.75 each time. Can you say LOOP HOLE :evilb: :evilb:

I think that their website is www.ezpass.com and you just pick your state?

I've beat the NJTP and GW bridge in NY while towing. The Delaware Memorial Bridge is a differemt story . My SRW F350 is normally $3.00 toll , with tandem axle trailer $6.00. Twice , for some reason they charged me $12.00. I fought it and got a refund.

Think about it - 5 toll booths through Illinois. I80 to Wisconsin. They know exactly what time you go through the booths and how far apart they are. NOBODY does anything les than 10 over on 294 when there's no traffic. If you ain't doing 75, you are getting run over!
Gotta wonder when they'll start issuing tickets through the system? Probably when they have a big budget shortfall.

All I know is that out here in sunny california we don't have things called tolls. I personally have both the easy pass and the sun pass to haul the boats around but never checked the statement to see how much I was getting billed for each time

I'm an IL resident and there IS already a big budget shortfall. All government contract work and state healthcare bills are more than 120 Days past due. Its coming.

OH and PA do this already. If you get to the next booth too fast, they just don't open the gate. The officer just walks out of the office and writes you a ticket. I have seen it happen in both states.

In the commercial class 8 world a drivers been known to be ticketed for speeding from port of entry scale to port of exit scale.
All of our trucks have ez-pass. A while back, one driver was warned for speeding thru toll booths. Kept doing it & they eventually suspended the pass on that unit No speeding ticket but it sucked to be him for a while.

Craig, when I towed the Sonic over the 301 Potomac bridge I got nailed for $12 using ezpass (5 axles). Not sure what math they used. This was about a year ago.

I just don't understand how they have a 5 mph speed limit on ezpass tollbooths. the lines at times are just as long if not longer then paying lanes  Remove the toll booths completely and just hang sensors overhead so i can just keep driving :D

NJ has full speed fast lane. It is fantastic. You never have to slow down at all. About a 1/2 mile before the booths you go off into your own two or three lanes and just keep motoring. 1/2 mile later you merge back in with the other people. Around us they are all 10 mph but I ussually go throgh at 15 or so. Still WAY better then fumbling with change, rolling down the window and so on. I still do not buy the conspiracy that they give tickets from point A-B as I motor at way over the speed limit all the times on my long long trips. Short trips I rarely speed in exess as you do not save time. There is a good chance that that person ripped through a trap or something..... I am not saying that they will not do it but I will check the web site later and see if they say anything about it.

If you get on at point "A" and off at point "B" , sooner or later they will start issuing tickets for speeding.
It's a money maker

You can not take a trailer of any kind on the southern calif fastpass lane. It is for cars and motorcycles only.

Re: Ez pass fast lane WATCH OUT

What you have to remember about EZ pass is that it is a private business. If they hand out tickets then their clientell is likely to toss the things in the trash and they will be out of business. I know that is what I would do, or any time that I was traveling on roads that they had multiple tolls I would put the thing in the bag that they give you and pay the cash. I just do not see them thinking that it is a good business model for them to do that.
