We have installed several Garmin 182 C units and the clients love them. Easy to use NO ISSUES. We have done a few of the 192 C units as well. Both are outstanding performers for a fair price. The screens are large with very good resolution both day and night.

sommer, are you looking for a built in unit?
How much space on your dash can u afford?
I had a garmin 276c. It had the features of the bigger ones, but in a smaller, portable package. Needed no wiring.

Don't forget with Garmin (and some others) that you will have to buy software or a "Blue Chart" in order to get marine mapping showing channel markers and all the stuff that you would see on a chart. I have the Garmin 176C works well except that it only has two brightness levels, both of which are too bright for night. (this is my main complaint) the other is that some of the updates that they periodically offer on their website will erase all of your saved data :( So if you want to back it up to your PC then that is more $ also.

Besides that, it has worked flawlessly for four years. They generally have way more options and settings than you will ever use. So be careful how many you change at any given time.

Add the Navman as one of your choices!
They offer a lot of extra's plus the display is the best I've seen in bright sunlight and can be dimmed at night.
They even have a flowscan type fuel monitoring system built in but not for higher horsepower setups (unless they changed it) They also offer nice software that allows you to set up routes and way-points with your laptop like I should be doing now on the off season :rolleyes:

I have heard good things about the navman.

I have the Garmin 182C (internal) though... and it works great.
Used it for two seasons. Have no complaints. No problems.
Day or night I can see it fine.

Thanks for the info, guys. I've got quite a bit of space to mount it behind the windscreen on my Fountain, and I'll be using it for the most part on Lake Michigan and LOTO. The key will probably be night use like someone else said...we about popped our eyeballz out searching for the opening in the breakwall that surrounds our harbor after the Chicago fireworks July 3rd. Fortunately, I just found a fast set of nav-lights to follow, boardmember Candyman, and his GPS screen is just about visible from 100 feet behind!

I use my 192 C for the first time today worked awesome. The software is built in on the 192c. West Marine and Boaters World have them for $699.
