You can pay the same amount of money for a 4,000 sq ft home OR a 37 OL/38Cig. The home takes 20x the manpower and probably 100X more material than to build a boat. Makes NO sense to me. Buying a new boat is rediculous and they are all way overpriced.
I have to agree with you there, I could't watch my brand new assett depreciate 20% as soon as it leaves the showroom floor and another 10% the rest of the year.

Besides, the bulk of the cash isn't in the Hull, it's in the crazy paint job, upholstery and equipment. Then again, most of the $$ is in the equipment!

The hull isn't really worth much.

I read those articles, and while I don't have the magazine with me, I believe the Fountain was 13,000 lbs. and the OL was 10,000 lbs. They ran almost exactly the same top GPS speed (118 mph, I think)

2,150 HP / 13,000 lbs = 0.165 HP per pound to reach 118 mph
1,700 HP / 10,000 lbs = 0.17 HP per pound to reach 118 mph

Yeah, I know other factors come into play, and the weight is hull weight, but it still a benchmark of some sorts.

If your concerned with speed:

OL is $8387.72 per MPH
Fountain is $6396.56 per MPH

Go ahead, check my math!

You sure arent kidding.. And, if you build, the home, in the right area, it most cases, it will appreciate in value.. and, then if you think property taxes on your house are all that bad, what about the costs of running and keeping up one of these boats.. fuel costs, insurance, rebuilds...... ouch... to have the $$ to afford it all... wouldnt it be nice...

Anything after 2' seas and that 118mph out of the 42' Outerlimints will evaporate like thier resale...Fountain dominates again.

I've yet to ride a 47 Fountain so I can't comment.

I've driven and rode in a few 42 Fountains, 29 Fountains (Single and twin), 35 Fountain, 42 OL and the 37 OL, there's no comparison in ride quality. OL is stiffer and goes thru the slop much better.

Not as good as an Apache though!

Now, if I could only figure out how to get around that PRICE thing I would be set!

My thoughts exactly. I doubt you'd barely feel 2 footers in a 42OL at 118......
Was anyone in KW for the 2002 nationals when Mike ran his very 1st 42GTX in PV class w/ the PX cats.. There were only 2 cats from what I can remember. Bud and another one. AS expected, the cats were out front, but, the OL wasnt to far behind and did make a very impression showing..
