V. Hulls vs Cats.

Yadda Yadda Yadda. you aint lived till you run across the water in a Hydrostream. Hopefully this year I will add with a offshore 2.5efi. on the back     :p :p

stingray 11-16-2001 12:48 AM

You mean skimmed.... :D :D :D

timewarp 11-16-2001 12:53 AM

Hydrostream has great Tunnel hulls, cats are the best!!!! :D :D
Caleb

Audiofn 11-16-2001 12:55 AM

Timewarp don't forget about the HST hull. :D :D

timewarp 11-16-2001 01:30 AM

I like the HST's actually I am keeping my eye out for one, just to play with, they weren't the race boat that they were designed to be but they are a fun boat that will run through some pretty rough water for their size.
I learned how to powerboat in Hydrostreams.

HydroScream 11-16-2001 01:40 AM

Whats wrong with a hydrostream? :p

timewarp 11-17-2001 06:05 PM

Not A thing!

US1 Fountain 11-17-2001 06:23 PM

OK, call me stupid, call me ignorant. Rivergirl, you just call me ;)

What is the difference between a tunnel hull and a cat?

packinair 11-17-2001 06:25 PM

IF IT AIN'T A CAT>>>>> IT'S GOT TO BE A DOG!!!

timewarp 11-17-2001 07:59 PM

I don't think there is really a difference between a cat and a tunnel hull they call the small ones tunnel hulls and the larger ones cats. Some cats have centerpods and then they are not refered to as true cats by the purists. The depth of the tunnel probably has to do with whether they are called cats or tunnels but they still call it a tunnel if it is on a cat so I'm sorry but I don't know if there really is an answer to that question.

Hydrostreams: The drivers love them and the passangers just cry

Cigwillie 11-18-2001 12:44 AM

That cat/dog line is a good one...is that original?

timewarp 11-18-2001 01:13 AM

Originally someone said it, it's been around for years. :) :D :)

packinair 11-18-2001 01:14 AM

It might have been original when it was put on the boat I took it from :D :D

SHARKEY-IMAGES 11-18-2001 01:27 AM

A cat can claw, but the dog can bite!!!

NICKSLICK 11-18-2001 01:27 AM

Just remember this.

A DOG can kick the **** out of a CAT.

Dam cat drivers...

:D

Cigwillie 11-18-2001 10:28 AM

Boys...give me a little credit. You didn't think I was serious?! It's been on every thread involving Vee's and Cat's.

ScreaminDemon 11-18-2001 10:53 AM

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. A tunnel hull runs more on the wing effect, usually wider tunnels and around 80% aerodynamics and 20% hydro. The Cat is typically a narrower design and depends more on compressed air with 80% hydrodynamics and 20% aero.

Screamin:
By your definition, there is a MAJOR difference.

packinair 11-18-2001 02:41 PM

It is very rare that the dag ever can catch the cat

SHARKEY-IMAGES 11-18-2001 03:02 PM

:D :D :D

SuperCharger 11-18-2001 08:05 PM

So if there is a difference between "cats" and "Tunnels" name a few!

Puzzled 11-18-2001 10:38 PM

Good question SuperCharger....and welcome to the board. Guys, please name a few...

NICKSLICK 11-19-2001 12:13 AM

Thats because dogs cant climb trees...

  :D

26scarab 11-19-2001 01:04 PM

Hey NHRA910,

I've heard that one before !! I'm sure you can figure out who it was.
Sorry about cutting you off earlier, but work has been chaotic (sp) this morning . I wish I would have stayed in bed !

To answer your question, Yes I love the truck. It is amazing , it may have the same body style as the old one but it is completely a different truck. I can't wait to tow something with it !

"Cats are fast, but the best girl I ever knew had a DEEP VEE"

(stolen from a former llama racer)

"Deep Vees never have to ***** around"
(unknown)

I hate Hydrostreams. I blew up two engines racing against them; racing against the same boat too! Got to get him out in the gulf someday...

Audiofn 11-20-2001 09:53 AM

Kent don't even try to keep up with him. You will make is a cool three if you are not carefull :D :D If the guy can really drive it good they can even run at speed in the rough stuff as well!! No fun for the passangers

Jimboat 05-25-2002 11:39 PM

Cats & Tunnels

There is no difference between a modern-day catamaran and a tunnel hull. Both have twin assymmetrical hulls, and use aerodynamics to assist hydrodynamic lift. No difference...two words, same meaning.

Maximus 05-26-2002 09:16 AM

crazy

Hydrostream = suicide mission. Those things take big balls.. defintley boating on the edge. This guy screams around the flats near my house in one 1ft of water. I swear he's doing over a hundred ....teedle ..teedle . Then again people think I'm crazy doing that out in the gulf.

How fast are they?
How much water do they draw at speed?
What kind of props?

Maximus

Audiofn 05-26-2002 10:03 AM

How fast are they...... Well that depends. My Viper was 15ft long and had a 150xs on it and it ran almost 80. I then modified the engine and so far we have been spinning a 28 pitch up to almost 6 grand even a little more. I think we need to try a 30 pitch. My other buddies Volero runs to the P on MPH on his 80mph speedo. Put a 2.5efi on it and you would be at about 105 is what we have been told. They are very fast boats.

As far as what kind of water do they draw at speed, well figure that the prop runs half in and half out of the water, so you are only drawing what is below that because your observation of the boat being above the water is a good one :D:D The only thing in the water is the bottom half of the bullet and the skeg.

Jimboat 05-27-2002 10:47 AM

How much water?

Maximus: Your question... "How much water do they draw at speed?" At high speeds, your boat will be completely "planing", and so all the wetted surfaces of the boat are actually planing "on top" of the water. (This is differenct to very low speeds, where there is also a "bouyancy" contribution too). If we know the configuration of the hull surfaces, we can calculate the sf of wetted surface or length of wetted surface of your hull. The total drag of the hull is the combined hydrodynamic drag of the wetted surfaces + hydrodynamic drag of lower unit (if I know the lwr unit design, I can tell you that drag too) + some aerodynamic drag from exposed hull, motor, etc. surfaces.

Often the motor (lower unit) drag can be the most significant drag contributor at very high speeds. Motor drag is influenced by the design of the bullet and skeg, and by the "X-factor" (amount of lower unit in the water) at speed.

thx

Thanks for the info guys. I'll stick to my big cat. I get the "willys" watching that little thing fly(keep thinking a manatee is going to pop up in front of it) . Yikes.
