Docking Lights....?

Re: Docking Lights....?
Coming out of (or into) a channel at night they put just enough light on the water to reflect off the bouys and show the way. They don't help much for docking though.
I use mine just about any time i'm out at night. Leave them on until i'm out of the channel, then flip them back on to find the bouys on the way in.

I have them, but rarely use them. They are helpful if you are alone, where its really dark, on a pier without a light. If there's somone else with you (which there usually is), a spotlight is much more useful in dark docking situations. IMO

birdog is right. they are illegal to use while underway or anywhere other than a docking situation. they are also very stupid to use, must people dont realize they blind the heck out of oncoming boats. it is a HUGE pet peave of mine to see them being used while running down a river or something .

I've been yelled at by people already docked.
I would never use them when there are other boats in the river. But I use them to navigate channels, only if there are no other boats in front of me. Also, I only use them momentarily. In other words, I will flip on the light for a few seconds, see the bouy, then shut them off for another minute or so.
Some people are real adamate about NEVER using them!!!! I had a guy yell at me for some reason I'll never know. But he was just sitting in a lawn chair, next to his boat. He started screaming at me. I thought he was gonna jump in the water and swim out and kick my a$$.
I only had the light on for about 4 seconds.
WHAT AN A$$ HOLE HE WAS!!!!!!!!!

used them on most all of my previous boats when docking only in certain situations, will instal them soon on my new (old) boat; never used underway with other boats on my bow- illegal and dangerous

When you need light , you need light. I like mine. Had them on my last boat too. Use them in a winding channel I occasionally use with reflective NOT lit markers. They ARE illegal to use while underway
