Boating deaths drop in Northeast

Recreational boating fatalities are down for the second consecutive year in the Northeast waters covered by the 1st Coast Guard District.

There were 39 fatalities in 2005, down from 41 in 2004. The 2005 figure is a 40-percent reduction from 1998’s 65 recreational boating fatalities, says Al Johnson, the district’s recreational boating safety specialist.

The district is made up of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, a portion of New York (including Long Island) and the northeastern section of New Jersey.

In 2005 manually powered vessels, such as canoes and kayaks, accounted for 20 deaths, while motorized vessels accounted for 19.

Most recreational boating fatalities are the result of a fall overboard or a capsize caused by inexperience, inattention or inappropriate behavior, Johnson says.

I would LOVE to hear them explain how the "manual powered vessels" created one more death than the evil powerboats.

This could be the grand-master spin of all time......

Come on wienies, you can spin this. You can make it sound like it's OUR fault that the kayakers, etc. caused more deaths. Come on you can do it. I've got faith in you. Wienies unite, you can do this, you can blame us for this horrible, unbelievable, anti-wienie fact. YOU CAN DO THIS.

Phucking retards..............

Had to be close calls with power boats .

I think they need slower speeds , mandantory PFDs , operators licenses , mandantory hours of operation , limits on the sizes of lakes they can use(no big water) , how far from shore they're allowed to paddle and months of operation for the really stupid ones.
Last Monday some guy was trying out his new birthday present (a canoe) on the Delaware River. They still haven't found him

This is fun making new laws and restictions when it doesn't effect me.
Gee now I know what it's like to be a real azz hole

Only a couple of more days to go , hope we get lucky and they get pizzed. They'll be whining like a bunch of 4 year olds
If they win they'll be gloating , them prune faced , blue haired , self centered , holier than thou , save the world , tree huggin' , crock suckin ,sumbetches.
If I get up there this year , I guess I'll have to "drive it lke I stole it" for the week.
See if my engines were worth the money and if the drives hold up to them
