Had a Baja Sport 220 with a 370HP 454 in it with an Alpha. I think they made those boats with Alpha/Big Block only in 86 and 87.

Lasted well over 400 hours... took it easy on take offs and changed the spark interrupter a few times.

Guy that bought it from me eventually blew it up, he told me the casing let go but that was passed 400 hours easy. The boat was very light also.

Go for for the big cubes (406+) and change the alpha to a bravo shortie. You will need Hydraulic steering. It is a drivers boat at those speeds. :D

Mine - '83 18' Classic - 406ci, 10:1, 450hp/498 lbs torque, raised X Bravo...I would think the alpha would have a short life span as much as this thing leaves the water.

Since the mid 90's, Merc offered the Alpha's for a max 300 HP(350MAG MPI)...

been running my sbc N/A through a alpha for 2 years, about 560 hp... 2950 lbs, drive shower, amsoil gear lube. No problems.. common sense is all it takes.. i have pounded on mine and haven't even hurt it.. to hell with a bravo, its more drag and more wieght...
