Re: Warranty??
496HO you get 1 factory.
2 if from a certified installer.
Can purchase up to 5 additional on top of 1 year factory or 4 additional on top of 2 certified installer warranty. (Total of 6 years maximum).
I know of no extended warranty program for 525EFI.
Passport used to offer extended 5 years on the 500EFI, but now Passport is owned by Brunswick, who owns Mercury, which may/may not still be applicable.

Re: Warranty??
The boat I'm buying has a 525, and it says 1 year Ltd. recreational boating. Well that year is up for me and it says 3 year corrosion. I think that the 525 is technically a Mercury Racing engine and might not be considered a recreational motor. Everyone I talked to tells me that it is bulletproof and probably much more reliable than the 496. Don't know of any extended warranties for the 525 either, but I'm trusting the engine, they are everywhere and if there were any real problems, I'm sure I would have heard it. Plus it has a closed cooling system, that is a big bonus for running in salt.

Re: Warranty??
Brunswick Product Protection does offer a 5 year extended on the 525 and the 496 HO and a 6 year on the 496 if it has a two year factory. First Protection will do the 5 or 6 year on the 496 but will not do the 525. Let me know if you need any additional information as I sell them both. [email protected]
