Yes there where two Fayva cats, the first was originally built for Rocky Aoki (Benihana) but as the boat was nearing completion at our yard in England Rocky had a bad racing accident and was unable to continuing racing, the boat was then offered for sale, selling it was note problem as we had full order books, Maynard stepped straight in and purchased this boat; he also had the next boat on order, which he requested to be changed to a special sprint cat. This second boat was very light and only suitable for mirror water, when it did race it was in conditions it was never intended for. o The first boat went on to win the 1980 UIM world championships in Australia, when Maynard retired the boat was sold to George Morales who campaigned the boat in 1983 before switching to the superboat class in Mercruiser Special o The second boat was the one that was destroyed. |

for those lucky few that have run in a Bertram, does the narrow beam give a bad ride when cruising? Really too bad they got out of the race biz, awesome looking boats :D

So as compared to the standard 24 degree V, they were hard riding....but man, were they fast in the right kind of conditions. |
