Carbon Fiber dash
On boats with carbon fiber dashes, are they actually carbon fiber or are they aluminum with some type of overlay?

3600Cat, that dash is outstanding!!
If you purchase a DIY carbon fiber sheet from robotcombat.com for example, how would you address a panel for switches... would you send it somewhere to get the switch function laser etched or have stickers made up, etc? What would be the cleanest way to go about this? Looking for ideas like RonS. Thanks, Dan |
Re: Carbon Fiber dash
The Outerlimits gtx's dash's are completely carbon fiber. Some of the carbon fiber dashes's seen are just mock carbon fiber or just a skin.

Thank's for the replies, not sure if I want to do some kind of overlay on what I have or just do all new panels on my 336. Formula has aluminum, not sure if fabricating all the panels is worth the headache or if I should just have a place like extreme marine do everything. Animal house, do you know how thick the carbon fiber is on the outer limits? |
Re: Carbon Fiber dash
Does anyone know how I can properly identify the function of each switch on a new carbon fiber dash panel? Stickers, laser etching, etc?? Suggestions on where to look??
Thanks, Dan

Re: Carbon Fiber dash
Have it laser etched then have the etching painted with
a contrasting color. Im sure who ever provides the service has done this before, should be simple for them. If you DIY use a thin brush that is as thin as the deepest part of the etching. Should be a easy process then hit it with some spray can clear. 2 or 3 light coats should keep that small area of paint intact for a long time. Might not even need the clear but it wouldnt hurt. |
Re: Carbon Fiber dash
Most people down here use a company called Paneltronics, Inc.
It's expensive, but worth it. |
