Re: No boating today
Not too often that it gets this low. The last time our creek was completely empty was 1997. We had just moved in and they were working on building the dock. The construction barge was sitting flat on the mud.
We can get some pretty low tides in the summer too if the wind is from the north, I once ran the boat aground in the exact same spot I had run just a day earlier (the GPS tracks were right on top of each other). -g |
Re: No boating today
Now would be a great time to grab a shovel and do some homemade dredging :D

Re: No boating today
[QUOTE=firstoffshore] I never knew that wind could have such an effect...How often does this happen? [QUOTE]
We see this all the time on the western basin of Lake Erie. It is the shallower end of the lake and the wind blows all the water to the other end of the lake. |

Re: No boating today
Don't complain, it's 10 degrees here with 50 mph winds, wind chill is 20 below zero. There's no boating here for a while.

Re: No boating today
I was going over the John Ringling Causeway once, back in oh maybe 99' or so in the winter, and we'd had two days of VERY strong winds out of the east. Combined with the low winter tides, looking both north and south at Sarasota Bay, the only water in the entire bay as far as you could see was this thin ribbon which was the ICW. Nothing but this giant mud flat. Wish I had a camera with me. I've lived here over 25 years and never saw anything like that.
