There is no question that you will get a better quality product out of Zul's shop over mercury. Lately Mercury's quality control has been a little less than desirable.

I am still shocked sometimes times at how well my 625 Zuls perform. I have the dyno sheets showing 648hp and 645hp each but they're really about 625 at the prop. The boat burns hardly any fuel, and will run like hell. I'd like to have him build another set for my next boat. More hp of course.

Whats a ballpark figure on a custom 525 hp drop in engine. Just wondering how they compare to the cost of a merc 525. I've seen prices on some of the higher hp custom engines, but i don't think i've heard much about their tame ones.

It is not comparing apples to apples. If you want reliable and resale you go with factory. If you want horsepower you go after market. It is no different than purchasing a car like a corvette. General motors spends millions on R&D to make them last for 200k miles and go fast. If you want to go faster you contact lingenfelter and drop in new motor.

What are you talking about......grumpy zuls stuff has been reliable for years.....he will NOT do anything that is not totally reliable....you can hold his stuff wide open just like some 525s....yet there more hp....please.......zul builds reliability!!!!....been doing it for years, have you ever heard of a complaint about Mr. Zul????....do your research prior to posting on such a name.....that would be like me saying Reggie Fountain is a idiot
