drives...yes or no question

okis...i just need a simple straight forward response for this question...will raising the x dimension lower the bow lift?thank you

maybe :D :D :D :D

If the X is real deep, then probably not.

That's what the trim switch is for.

That would be why I'm here.............. :D

There is no..Yes or No...It depends. deeper, spinning in should carry the bow more...Maybe
Now throw props into the equation also.....

Re: drives...yes or no question

All other things being equal raising the x will cause the bow to drop. If the drive is higher it exerts less leverage and drops the bow. Some boats get extensions at the same time to bring some of the leverage back. But if you just move the prop up (like an outboard with a jack plate) it will drop the bow at the same trim position.

Re: drives...yes or no question

Raising the drive height from stock Bravo X on your style hull will lower your bow, and if she porpoises now even a little bit ,she will be like flippers older brother with less X and also net way slower speeds.

Yea....It seems like my Top Gun needs to lift the bow more, not lower it. Vs on boxes

After months of experimenting with short drives and shims, we finally lowered our drives 1/2" lower than our original stock X.
We picked up speed at this height and experienced way less porpoising, with the addition of a small amount of hull hook removal we completely cured our porpoising .

if the boat is porpoising, wouldn't you want a higher x to lower the bow?

Know, you need to pick up the bow and keep it there, with a high drive height you don't have the leverage to keep the bow up ,so it acts like a see saw, up then down never continuously carrying your bow.
Before you spend a ton of time and money like we did and many others before us re-rigging our heavy Cigarettes to lighter stepped boat specs, I would give Tres Martin a call all these boats are a little bit different.
He was the one that finally suggested we lower our drives 1/2" deeper into the water than stock. He was dead nuts on, we went from 83 to 85mph and running like flipper, to a best of 94+mph GPS with new X vr our 2" shortie drives, and she requires zero tab at cruise speeds. Good Luck!

we were planning on gettin 12in set back boxes with a raised drive height. this boat has no problem keeping the bow up...we just need to keep it down

wildwarrior; do you have a picture to show what height your drives are at in relation to the boat? thanks

Re: drives...yes or no question

i would leave the outers and shortin the middle one, and possibily remove the middle skeg.

375stinger 01-24-2006 07:49 PM

Re: drives...yes or no question

what would happen if i removed the skeg in the middle? would i still get control from the other two drives? would it loose much drag by doing so?

johnnyboatman 01-24-2006 08:26 PM

Re: drives...yes or no question

when imco did the 3engines in the eliminator they removed it. worked for them . you will have plenty of control with the outer drives,
