Boat speeds & "newspeed"

Well, just for fun, I thought I'd ask a boat speed question.

What kind of speed are you getting out of your boat now? (GPS or speedo, don't care if it's exact)

And, if you're doing mods this winter, where do you hope to be?

Also, in your NEXT boat that you buy, what speed will you be wanting in that? (this is the "newspeed" part, I knew I'd get you "veterans" with that subject line ;)

Personally, I'm at 78-ish (I think I've been 81, but no GPS on board that day but my speedo is dead on at 78 mph, so....LOL!)and the next boat I'd like to be 85-90. I'm not doing any mods on current boat, just saving my pennies for a new boat, or travis's college fund :D

Hit 84 in our 28 Vamp with a 525, went to 575-600 hp and looking for 94.

Reindl Powerboats 01-16-2002 09:56 PM

Hit 82 in the 24 One Design Raceboat with only a 320 hp Volvo and a DPX. We are working with props to tweek a few more out of it.

That's pretty impresive, 82MPH in a 24' boat with 320 HP. I Read the article in Powerboat Magazine about your boats. Have you guys tried a Bravo III drive on one of your boats, does it work better with the counter rotating props? I wonder how it would run with a Blackhawk drive.

I was concidering one of these boats 3 years ago before I bought my factory 1 boat. I don't understand why more people aren't racing them. A canopied race boat for the price of a factory 1 boat. Good luck this year.

Currently a best of 88 on my 454 mag, whippled 25' Daytona.

Bought a Merc labbed 28 from "Badcat", on the shelf. Bought an XZ with Imco 2" shorty from "Sterndrivespec"- its on its way UPS. Hopefully in March I'll be seeing low 90's, anything more is icing on the cake. I won't be shocked if I kiss 95 with March water and air temps.

Dreaming of new speed- a 28'DaytonaLP, whippled, otherwise stock 6.2's and it'll be 100-110. Reality check says i'm keeping my 25 for a while given its speed per dollar and it's more than enough for the lakes I boat in. :D

PS- no other mods to the 25 after this- do not want PII syndrome.

BAJA WILL 01-17-2002 09:21 AM

Please never put up "NEWSPEED" I hate that crack head.

As for Speed, 27 Fountain, 500efi, 75 Radar, 78 speedo.

Next boat, 35 or 38 Fountain, or Sonic Not for a while.

26scarab 01-17-2002 09:22 AM

Current boat runs 80.1 on GPS , I would like
to add an extention box and shorter lower unit to possibly get to 84-85

My next boat would probably be a 28 Active Thunder w/box and a BIG naturally aspirated motor. running around 90-95 should do it.

My dream boat would be a 47' Apache with triple "whatever it would take" to run 120+

Advantage_Rob 01-17-2002 09:29 AM

genarally 81-82 gps with 1/4 tank and I've seen 83.7 with real low fuel on a cool day. It's amazing to me when I have a full tank of gas and 8 people It only gets 74 now with my 30 p props where it would do straaight up 80 with full gas and poeple with the 28's on it. No mods planned, just in the "thinking about how cool it would be" stage.

mltdwn12 01-17-2002 09:46 AM

Current speed mark, 114.5 mph on gps.

Winter projects, oil temp thermostat, maybe play with some labbed props or a bigger prop and some misc little stuff

newspeed, 30+ cat so I can run 100+ in more then ideal conditions and be safer :D

Current absolute best speeds alone, low on fuel, and really cold out was 67. I'm hoping that with a little prop tuning/swapping and raising the x-dimension I could touch on 70 under the same conditions. However, my next boat would be something with twins and in the 29'-33' range. I'll be happy with anything in the high-70's :D ;)
(At least that's what I say now)

Dave M 01-17-2002 10:04 AM

Current top speed 75.3 GPS with a stock 454 mag (385 hp). No mods planned until the warranty expires. After that, I'd like around 500 hp. That would probably put into the 80's. The hull is a 24' Superboat.

Uncle Toys 01-17-2002 11:01 AM

84mph during the third hour with the boat. Three guys on board, third of a tank, 55 degrees, water like glass, 25" Mirages (all over the rev limiters), on hand-held GPS. Then we switched to 26" Bravos, could only pull 81mph and 4,700rpm. Eliminator currently has boat, they wanted to do a minor mod to the hull. They believe it will pick up a couple of mph. Then we will try it with 27" Mirages. Should get close to 90 (please, please, please).

newspeed? Uncle Toys II will either be a 30' Eliminator or a 32" Skater with something unique under the hatch. ;) Hint - Uncle Toys I is an R&D project. This is subject to a couple of things: DougieFresh doesn't get me going on Vees in the ocean, my wife doesn't learn how to read OSO. Shhhh!

Cattitude - Your going to be french kissing 95 ;) :D Newspeed 28' DaytonaLP with 6.2's? Now that's an idea  Forget the "reality check", reality aint what got us to this point. Any finally - what's PII syndrome?

car54driver 01-17-2002 12:12 PM

1998 32’ Fountain Fever Procharged 502 mags, 1.36 ratio, 28” props. Last season 92.6 GPS. Looking for that extra 7.4 next season. ;)

Shane 01-17-2002 12:27 PM

24 Skater Twin 225 ProMax's...Runs mid to high 90's. Planning on doing some minor re-rigging come March. New Steering lines, and new bezels on transom and few tiny other things.

252 Formula 454 MPI...Runs 62. no upgrades.

Newspeed: 32 Skater 500 EFI's and #6's.

Shane

traviss 01-17-2002 01:18 PM

the baja 22', seen 77.2 on gps. this winter the motor just gets bearings and a oil pump...

The powerplay 18.5 ft at 3000 lbs, seen 58.3 on gps, with a tuckered out 350 chevy 270 hp.. it gets a new 383 with all the goodies for around 400 hp.. don't know about any speed gains.. maybe 1-2 ;)

dyno 01-17-2002 02:02 PM

The Sonic with the 330's on steroids runs 74mph on Gps....would love to run 80....maybe a stroker crank next time around gets me to around 500ci and some head work from JimV should get me close..love to get it with shorter drives but have'nt found any good feed back on them yet,at least not in a twin engine V-hull anyone want to fill me in.....

Payton 01-17-2002 02:15 PM

My old 26' Mirage has seen 75, but was revving to 5700rpms. I put on a 27" mirage (cupped) prop but have not driven faster than 65. I don't want to break anything.

I'm considering switching to a twin jet setup (nothing to break), if the testing proves proves what the designer is hopeing for. He is looking for performance similar to a prop. No more speed, just simpler.

Cattitude 01-17-2002 02:19 PM

UT- for PII see the tech Q&A thread- Pointless Incremental Improvements or something like that.

26scarab 01-17-2002 02:23 PM

Tuckered out ?!?!?

Is that some sort of farm term ? ;)

Kent Perroux 01-17-2002 03:00 PM

Current boat - 68
Next boat - 85+
(Both DeepVees)

27 FOUNTAIN 01-17-2002 05:46 PM

91' 27 Fever w/509 BM 250,2 carbs,8 lbs boost, 23 Rev 4,@5300 rpm= 79 mph GPS. Added a set of Gills over the winter(had stock exhaust)don't really expect much, had some leaking risers.Sure would love to see 80 though!Other than that typical boat and trailer maintenance.Love to have a 35 Lightning next preferrably with 500's, maybe with mith mild blowers to see 90 mph.

tomcat 01-17-2002 06:21 PM

I'v seen 84 mph with 27 Hydromotive QIVs and dead calm water. That's with a pair of 500 HP 502s in a 1986 Excalibur Cat. 100 mph seems to be the magical number, and a new 30' cat would hit that number with these engines. I like the 30 Spectre and 30 Eliminator, but I think that the only way I am ever going to get to 100 is in this old cat, and a pair of blowers.
