I don't recommend it, but I also have to do that on occasion.

If you hear or feel the u-joint getting in a bind. Then obviously that's too high.

My u-joint which is checked 3-4 times a year has been on for 4 seasons with 600hp.

The key is lowest idle possible and pull out of gear as much as you can once you are making headway to avoid sucking too much mud into motor.

No body wants to do this, fact is you will have too in tidal areas.

It's definately not advisable, but sometimes you have to do it. The U-joint will start complaining when it's binding, so you'll know. If you absolutely have to, keep it to a minimum.

Had to do that a lot last year.

Going to replace the u-joint this spring.

its not a good idea at all to trim drive in trl mode even alittle because it binds the u joints and could end up costing you a transom assy.....

well,it looks like i'm screwed. i can't get out without triming it up in trailer mode. i even put all passangers up in the bow to keep the drive up as high as possible. our neighbor says it's been unusally low lately. maybe the tide will come up a bit. i dont feel any binding or wierd vibrations or noises. i see on the depth guage about 1.7feet when tide is at low. 2.3 at high. this sucks. i guess i'll cross my fingers and hope it holds up for the month, then get it servised when i get home.
BOOMER: we like the boat alot. were from suffield. we keep our boat at seaboard marina. you have probally seen us out at the sandbar or harbor park. it's a single engine 502 with a bowrider.

I wonder if there is also a slight chance of damage to the bearings, drive housing and possible gears in the drive. Your putting a lot of side ways pressure on that drive shaft as the u-joint rotates in the extreme trim position.
Yes, no??? Possible by theory, but not likely???

Put your swim suit on and walk it out.

There is a measurement across the trim cylinder mounting bolts that is not to be exceeded when running.
