Talk about a joke! Anyone who recomends a marine surveyor who has been denied membership in Both NAMS & SAMS because their work product was not acceptable as a professional. Now there is the real joke.

Tom Benton is fully Certified by NAMS as a yacht surveyor, and is fully accredited by SAMS as a yacht surveyor. He is the Gulf Regional Director of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, and a former Vice President of SAMS.

Credientials =
Tom Benton, NAMS-CMS, SAMS-AMS
Ben Harmon, NONE, he can't get accepted

The real joke here is that a buyer recently paid several hundred dollars more to bring in a surveyor from St Louis because of a BS comment on this forum. He did get a good surveyor, but he didn't use Ben Harmon!

What is the difference? 3 page survey from a guy who can't find anything wrong with a boat, vs a full marine survey from a highly respected and nationaly certified professional marine surveyor.

The joke is on those who paid good money for a less than competent marine surveyor

just because a person has the paper dosent mean you know jack sht. Alas a yacht is diffrent than a performance boat.

boatInspector 07-28-2007 04:14 PM

Just because a guy can afford a high performance boat doesn't mean that he knows jack sht about the construction or the equipment on the boat!

I have handled many insurance claims on high performance boats with LOW performance drivers.

I will stack my knowledge of the boats, the construction, the required equipment, the proper valuation, and everything else to do with marine surveying against Ben Harmon any day!

But then...... if all you want is to BS the bank about what it is worth, and to BS the insurance company about the condition and safety of the boat, then you better use Ben Harmon.

I tell it like it is! Not like you want me to say it is!

BTW, apparently you don't have a clue what a yacht is. Every boat used for recreational purposes is by defination a "Yacht"
