Bill sets maximum Lake Erie island speed limit at 35 mph
News Herald reports

Beginning in May, speed limits on Lake Erie islands will be limited for 35 miles per hour.

The Ohio House of Representatives gave final approval to Sen. Randy Gardner's bill Tuesday and the 35-mile per hour speed limit will be in place 90 days after Gov. Bob Taft signs the bill.

"This bill has always been about three things -- public safety, common sense and public support," Gardner said.

Gardner, the Senate Majority Floor Leader, received support for the bill from Ottawa County Engineer David Brunkhorst, Put-in-Bay Township Trustees, EMS personnel, the Ohio Township Association and others.

I think this is refering to cars, not boats. The word "ON" L Erie Islands...

Un-enforceable. They dont have anything that can catch my cruiser much less you guys. And what denotes "Island" waters verses open water. Must be cars.

Lake George is 32 miles long and 1-3 miles wide. If you would say that Lake George is 3 miles wide for it's entire length that equates to 96 square miles of water.

Lake Erie is 10,000 square miles!!! The shoreline is 856 miles long and is the 13th largest natural lake in the world.

I would think they woulda said around, or within so far of.... if they were talking about boats. Let alone saying boat in the story. I think it's a car thing. I've had a golf cart over 40 tho

I clocked my golf cart at 25 with the GPS and I thought I was doing good. 40 on a GC is sick! I need one of those.

If it is the speed limit ON the islands it is over due.

Remember, they have had a couple of vehicle related deaths in the last few years, And the only high speed boating one I can think of was Ollie and that was a while ago now.
