Potomac River Boating Question

Looking for a good place on the Potomac for a boat trip on Memorial Day. Any suggestions? A few kids will be going so would like to have a pool. And also somewhere good for the adults in the evening. Thanks.

Throw a rock and hit the Pentagon, right in Downtown Washington DC. Call NOW to get transient slips. Everything you are looking for, with nice slips and facilities. I don't think they have a pool, and you do not want to swim in the upper Potomac. There will be a lot of boaters out on Memorial Day weekend on the upper Potomac in DC all the way to King George County (Fredericksburg). Plenty of DC nightlife from staying up in DC. Also look into slips in Old Town Alexandria. No marina and no facilities, but really cool place, and hotels are within walking distance.

Anyone and everyone would also like Solomon's Island, MD, but it is the end/southern Mouth of the Potomac River.

Coles Point Plantation is pretty good. There's a pool, restraunt, bar w/ent. at night. They rent cabins if you don't want to stay on the boat.

Dennis point marina is another. It's on the St. Mary's River.

These places aren't the "off the hook" party spots but good for families.

P.S. Say hi to Elmore for me. :D

tall timbers is cool, they burn an old wooden hull bay boat every year on memorial day, july 4th fireworks and agin with bonfire on labor day. nice resturant, gas is reasonable and its a quiet cove. family owned, nice beach area too.

Dang Brian, I'm disappointed in you. Solomon's Island is at the mouth of the Patuxent River....not the Potomac.

Brian C,
How old are the kids that will be with you?

Thanks for all the tips, we've hit a lot of those places down from the 301 bridge, maybe this year we need to head north. Dave, I'll be sure to let Elmore know.

Craig, kids are between 10 & 14. Not mine, but some of my fellow boating pals have some youngins'.

Thanks for keeping the kids in mind ! Sure makes it nice to have facilities to keep them happy.Especially since I am constantly told that it's HER boat and she just let's me drive it !!! Keep up the good work

If you decide on solomons let me know. I live right across the river from it and I can give some names of places you could get a slip with a pool and hotel. GREAT nightlife for adults with boats. You can't miss the tiki bar.
