Bought a new (to me) boat

I just brought this home yesterday. Beating the snowstorm by mere minutes. It's a 1995 velocity with a 454 mag. It's hard to believe its a 95, it's in mint condition. Big thanks to OSO member Katywompus whom I bought it from. He couldn't have been a nicer or more helpful guy.

Re: Bought a new (to me) boat

Thanks everyone. I'm really excited about it. It only has 180 original hours on the engine and the bravo only has about 80 hours and looks brand new. The top speed is 66 gps, but maybe next winter will be whipple time. For this year I think I'm gonna put k-planes and add-on hydraulic steering. Due to travel for work, i won't be able to splash it until the end of may though :(

yeah its the wrong flame arrestor. Don't know why that was on there, but thats an old pic that was sent to me when i was shopping. You don't see it now, because it has the mercruiser 454 black plastic cover on it.

No blower on there. At least not yet.

Re: Bought a new (to me) boat

Now I just need to come up with a name. My girlfriend and I came up with a few names today but nothing that seems just right yet.

Liquid Force (I used to wakeboard a lot and used this brands boards)
Irresistable Force (A song from a band I really like)
Sin City
C-Word (not really in the running, but we saw it on a boat on TV last night and it cracked us up)

ahhh, this is the worst part of buying a boat.

Its a 26' Thoroughbred Velocity. Same hull as the newer 280's, but without the fiberglass platform. I believe they started calling it the 280 in 1996.

Lets see...

I'm 27, no kids.

My girlfriend and I have been together for 5 years.
(I suggested the name "a diamond is forever..." to her, and she laughed and then said NO WAY. I kind of like it though :D )

I'm a logistics consultant for a company that deals mostly in Department of Defense contracting.

My hobbies are drinking and boating. so not much help there. Although, I don't want an alcohol reference on the boat to draw any unnecessary attention.

I don't know him, besides on the boards. My old boat, which i need to sell now, is only 22', so I pretty much kept to the patuxent river areas the last few years. Traveling is going to be tough since I traded in my truck last year for a lexus when I bought a boat lift. I had to borrow my brother-in-laws yukon to go pick up the boat.

You should come down to solomons island this summer though and experience the tiki bar. I run around with a group of about 15 boats, 4 of them sonics, a formula and a bunch of non performance boats.

I tried to PM you but i cant. I would name it Demond's Eye ( that is what my boat is) KSA (kiken' some ass) or Hawkeye.

That would be a fun road trip... How's the law on noise and speed and such? How are the launches? Water clean?

I believe the law is 90db at idle. As far as I know though, we really don't have any problems down here with enforcement. None of my friends have ever even been questioned about it and I've never seen the marine police administering a test in this area.

No speed laws except in small creeks.

The only ramp I've ever used is in my neighborhood, which is a nice ramp but a tiger might be big for it. There are a bunch of other ramps around but I couldn't tell you which is best since i dont have experience with them. I could always ask around though.

The water is very clean. It has a nice white sandy bottom and it is one of the deepest areas of the chesapeake. It gets to 125' deep in the patuxent alone.

Re: Bought a new (to me) boat

Names, how about "Terminal Velocity" or "Defense Mechanism"

Shore Thing 02-12-2006 09:25 PM

Re: Bought a new (to me) boat

I've always liked terminal velocity, but I think its been used too much.

Defense Mechanism is a good one, I'll add it to the list. Thanks!

Yeah, it probably has been used a lot. Not a lot of Velocitys in my area so I've never seen it. I've see "aquaholic" a few times though! :D

You could always name it "Maximum Celerity" just to keep people guessing! :D
