WInter boating

The weather out here in socal is so unpredictable, it can really ruin a planned day of boating in the winter. Yesterday we decided to launch the boat and head over to Catalina and spend the day in Avalon. We had expected the weather to be in the mid to high 60's, with a little fog and possibly even some wind to cool things down to the low 60's.
Once we got to the breakwater in Newport Harbor we realized that we were in for a brutal socal weather day. The temp was about 85 degrees, no fog, and no wind. On top of that, the water was almost completely flat. Since we were expecting colder temps, we we dressed in jeans and long sleeve T-shirts. We were not prepared with shorts and short sleeve shirts and I got a bit of a sunburn on my face. Also, since the water was so smooth, we arrived in Avalon earlier than expected and had to wait about 15 minutes before we could order lunch at the restaurants. These socal winters can be tough.. :drink: |

I had the family come with me for the 1st time on the boat in the open ocean. With mild seas and warm California weather, they thoroughly enjoyed Avalon. We were having such a good time being "tourists", that we were one of the last to leave the island on Sunday afternoon.

Re: WInter boating
I ran over to Catalina about 1 month ago. It was sweet. Weather was 65, it was cloudy until I got to Catalina. Then we had lunch and some cocktails. It is always a great time there.

We did the submarine tour and golf kart adventure tour. Ate our way through the island with food, drink and ice cream. Did some shopping and booked him. Even let G take us home in Newport.

What a beautiful spot.
You guys ever have to dodge the seals when running on plane? Or do they get out of the way? |

Re: WInter boating
so you do see them and have to turn sometimes to avoid?
I've clipped sea gulls occasionally but wouldn't want to run over a walrus  |
