~Why doesn't Merc make any 600+ hp NA motors?
Just curious why Merc has to start slapping on superchargers on everything after the 525's to get more power? I think for some, superchargers spell trouble?? Wouldn't you think a 600+ hp NA motor would go over better than supercharged?

Boost is the most economical way to hp.
You need expensive heads, higher duration & lift cams more compression etc to make bigger na power.
For example ,my merc 600scs with 4lbs of boost at 250hrs when torn down had at least another 75 hrs in them before they needed anything.
Factory blown MERC motors are on snooze from cam specs to compression untill you get into their solid lifter very high hp mills and then if you follow their mantanance details will run several hundred hrs between "total" rebuilds.
I myself would take boost hp to NA hp any day of the week for high hp marine applications.
Engines are only as good as their builder and their quality matched components!

The other reason Merc may be really slapping on the boost is because I believe they now own Whipple, makes sense to me!
